Colorado Rockies defeat LA Dodgers 5-3. Dodger's starter Hiroki Kuroda came out shaky in the first three innings but eventually pulled it together in his last three innings. Unfortunately the aftermath of the first three innings was giving up five runs to the Rockies who seemed to luxuriate in hitting the Dodgers. Apart from the eight-run first inning of the first game, the Dodgers were completely outplayed in this series. The positive note: Andruw......

LA Dodgers defeat Colorado Rockies 16-10. In an effort to conserve energy, the Colorado Rockies apparently decided to turn of the humidor. The Dodgers came out with a bang scoring eight runs in the first inning. They would go on to take an 11-0 lead in the third inning, but Coors Field being what it is the Rockies would make a comeback. After being shut out for the first two innings, the Rockies scored......

LA Angels defeat Toronto Blue Jays 3-1. Angel's start John Lackey pitched a masterful game against the Chicago White Sox in his season debut on the 14th but didn't get the win. So Lackey came out Tuesday night and pitched just as well giving up one run on seven hits in seven innings while the bullpen pulled through to give him his first win. Things got interesting in the ninth inning when Angel's closer......

Dallas Stars defeat Anaheim Ducks 3-1. The Ducks continued to be outplayed by the Stars as goalie Marty Turco came within seven seconds of shutting out the Ducks. Duck's center Brian Sutherby, who had scored only one goal early on in the season, thought he had tied the game in the second period but was called off after a video review for kicking the puck in the net. Down three games to one, the......

It started as SB 1771, a bill that would implement a program teaching homeowners how to navigate through the current mortgage crisis. Then, all of the sudden, it was about the NFL in the City of Industry. It may seem tricky, but that's the game when it comes to "spot bills," or placeholders with text and intentions that may be the goal or not. Developer Ed Roski Jr., owns 600 acres of land in Industry......

LA Dodgers defeat Pittsburgh Pirates 8-1. I left work late, so I missed the six runs the Dodgers scored in the first two innings. Apparently Matt Kemp avoided a run down by playing dead. Really. Brad Penny pitched a strong 5 2/3 innings and closer Takashi Saito pitched a perfect ninth to come back from his disastrous outing Monday night. James Loney has now gotten a hit in the first 15 games, and Rafael......

LA Lakers defeat Sacramento Kings 124-101. No tacos for the fans, but joy still rang out with the Lakers clinching the #1 seed in the Western Conference for the first time since the 1999-2000 season. If anyone predicted this 57-25 season after the chaos of last summer that simmered through training camp, they are liars. It's amazing what the emergence of Andrew Bynum, Lamar Odom, the bench and the Pau Gasol heist can do......

Lakers 96, Blazers 83 - Portland made their first 21 free throws so, um, they got that going for them. Otherwise is was show time in Staples Center, with Kobe pouring in 30 along with 21 from Jordan Farmar (equaling a career high) and 15 from insta-hero Pau Gasol. The bearded big man added 10 rebounds for a double-double. Animal style. Los Angeles has won nine in a row and is looking ridiculously good (not......

Has anyone seen the cobra I just bought? | Photo courtesy of Fox Searchlight Wes Anderson doesn't have many casual fans. You either love the strange worlds of whimsy he creates or you find it all a bit precious and twee. Count me in the former camp and count The Darjeeling Limited as a return to form for Anderson after the ambitious but foggy The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. Next generation 3-D isn't......

Lakers 106, Bobcats 97 - The Lakers are 4-1 since acquiring Pau Gasol, playing a little cat-and-mouse last night in Charlotte. After allowing the Bobcats to cut a 13 point lead to 3, Kobe put it away in the closing minutes. He had 31 points, his third game in a row over the 30 mark. Gasol contributed 26 despite a cold ... Clippers 103, Knicks 94 - Los Angeles won on the road for the first time in nine games, beating up on one of the only NBA teams that may be worse than the Clips. Two key players, Correy Maggette (19 points) and Chris Kaman (15 points), returned for the first time in several games. Coach Mike Dunleavy, however, was sick and stayed in the team hotel. He did have enough energy to issue an apology......

I have no balls. After talking about the New England Patriot’s upset win against the St. Louis Rams six years ago, I said in this webspace, “Somehow I get a similar feeling with this Sunday’s game.” But I quickly dismissed it. In the end I picked the Patriots to win the game 34-27, and I was flat wrong and Bill Plaschke was right. And you don’t know how hard it is for me to admit......

Vague language is the name of the (big) game. There's a sports game on right now. The Big Game. You know, the championship game between two conferences of a league that specializes in playing the sport with a football. But hey since I'm not an advertiser, I can call a spade a spade: It's the Super Bowl. Super Bowl Super Bowl. Super Bowl. Between the New England Patriots and New York Giants. See, I......

LAist reader Hope Egan has sent us this pic from inside the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona where Super Bowl XLII is going to get going in just about two hours. In case you're totally oblivious (like I was until I did some internet-scouring) this is the 42nd annual playing of the major NFL match up, and this year's game is between the National Football Conference (NFC) champion New York Giants and......

I have to be very honest with you. I hate this time of the football season. I love the game, don’t get me wrong. I think the NFL has the most dynamic postseason in all of professional sports. I just hate this week of needless hype and other absurdities that would make Eugene Ionesco proud that lead up to the game. One piece that floated into my inbox Saturday morning comes from the folks......

In a post I wrote earlier this week, I talked about the New England Patriots back in 2002. The Patriots squeaked their way into Super Bowl XXXVI with the infamous “tuck rule” game against the Oakland Traitors in the snow of Foxborough and barely surviving the Steelers in the AFC Championship game. First-year starting quarterback Tom Brady was hurt in the game against the Steelers forcing veteran Drew Bledsoe off the bench to lead......

I am so sick of this shit. All week long the pervasive analysis on Sunday’s Super Bowl is Tom Brady’s boot and flowers to the owner of the vagina he sticks his dick in from time to time. Ok. I just threw up a little bit in my mouth. Does no one realize that this is the same quarterback that has been on the injured list every day since the dawn of time? Of......

In 1992, Quentin Tarantino made a huge splash at the Sundance Film Festival with his directorial debut, Reservoir Dogs. He didn't return to Park City until this year to serve as a member of the Festival's Jury. Last night, he was honored with the Ray-Ban Visionary Award and LAist was there. Following a short introduction by Dennis Hopper, Quentin took the stage and riffed about his first Sundance experience for about twenty minutes. Following......

NFL Playoffs - It was almost the perfect Super Bowl match up. Instead of Brady-Favre, we get Brady-Manning -- but it's the wrong Manning, if you're going to have one. New England held off San Diego and New York stole it in OT from Green Bay to face off in the big game. Green Bay would have presented the better threat to the Pat's attempt at a perfect season (their secondary is better than the......

We've already told you where the Patriots and Chargers fans will be taking in tomorrow's conference championship games, now we'll let you know where the Cheeseheads and Big Blue will gather to watch their teams fight for a trip to Super Bowl XLII. LA-based Packers fans have had a safe haven in Pickwicks Pub, Woodland Hills (21010 Ventura Blvd.) since 2005 when the bar re-opened after a fire burned down the original bar. Fans of the LA Rams weren't known to be fans of team owner Georgia Frontiere, who moved the NFL football franchise to her hometown of St Louis in 1995. The woman who took over ownership of the team in 1979 from her sixth husband, Carroll Rosenbloom, when he died by drowning, died yesterday at the age of 80 after a long-fought battle against breast cancer. Frontiere had been hospitalized for months prior to her death.......

by Joe King, from Pyle of List. No, this isn't about Pete Carroll returning to the NFL. That would definitely be time to panic, maybe even call the National Guard...if they're back from Iraq yet. This is about the first USC-UCLA game of the college basketball season. This is important people. Both teams played well in last year's NCAA tournament. Both teams had high expectations before the season started. Both teams had blue-chip freshman that......

Suns 106, Lakers 98 - Maybe Mitch Kupchak isn't a cupcake, but an evil genius. After mis-managing the Lakers in recent years, it turns out he was right about Andrew Bynum. He refused to trade the young center, and all of a sudden the kid got GOOD. Unfortunately, he's out with an injury and his backup was worthless against Phoenix (hence the evil part). Kwame Brown had seven turnovers and missed an open dunk. Bravo.......

I've managed to avoid watching NFL playoffs and college bowl games but I'm getting worn down, I'm tellin' ya. If I got the Fox Movie Channel I would watch Less Than Zero tonight at 7pm because I'm just about as strung out as Robert Downey Jr.was in that flick. NFL playoffs are here! Which means that Superbowl XLII is right around the corner. This year's Superbowl is going to be played in Arizona on February 3, 2007 and it was recently announced that Tom Petty will be playing the halftime show. Clippers 91, Timberwolves 82 - The Clippers came into the game with a six game losing streak, several players out with injuries, and went 0-for-14 from three point range. Fortunately, Minnesota is the worst team in the NBA so none of that mattered. USC vs. Illinois - It's a little bit of a letdown match up, but you still can't top the Granddaddy of Them All.
