Chris Paul Traded to Clippers. Maybe. Hopefully.

Chris Paul Traded to Clippers. Maybe. Hopefully.

A little less than a week after the Chris Paul trade to the Lakers was vetoed by NBA commissioner David Stern, it looks like Paul will finally make it to Los Angeles. However instead of the Lakers, Paul will be joining Blake Griffin and the Clippers according to ESPN's Marc Stein. more ›

David Stern Proves What a Joke the NBA Is

David Stern Proves What a Joke the NBA Is

Rather than celebrating a return of basketball, the NBA, Commissioner David Stern and its owners proved how incompetent, petty and ultimately what jokes they are. After nixing a trade that would have sent New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Lakers, the NBA made the NHL look like a well-oiled machine. more ›

Chris Paul Trade Called Off

Chris Paul Trade Called Off

Somewhere in between the time it took for me to park my car in Downtown Los Angeles at 6:00 p.m. and the seven-block walk to the STAPLES Center, the Lakers' Chris Paul trade has been called off. more ›

Lakers Nab Chris Paul, Say Adios to Pau Gasol and Lamar Kardashian Odom

After the ground breaking reporting by ESPN that the Lakers wanted both the New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul and Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard, it looks like the Lakers got half of what they wanted. Chris Paul is now a Laker on the day that NBA players officially ratified the new collective bargaining agreement. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Squash Hornets, Advance to Second Round

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Squash Hornets, Advance to Second Round

LA Lakers defeat New Orleans Hornets 98-80. After the Hornets stunned the Lakers in Game 1, this was supposed to be the team that gave the Lakers a lot of problems as a lot of pundits said. Well the problem was downsized to a whimper in Game 6. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Swat Hornets To Take Series Lead

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Swat Hornets To Take Series Lead

LA Lakers defeat New Orleans Hornets 106-90. After a first quarter where the Hornets got anything they wanted and led by nine, it seemed unlikely the Lakers would get the win much less give the fans their tacos. But it was the bench that sparked the comeback early in the second quarter coupled with Hornets errors that gave them the win. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Chris Paul and Hornets Sting Lakers in Game 1

LAst Night's Action: Chris Paul and Hornets Sting Lakers in Game 1

Normally a Laker loss in the playoffs isn’t cause for concern, but losing Game 1 to a seven-seed? Maybe a little alarming. The last time the Lakers lost Game 1 at home was on May 4, 2009 when the Houston Rockets beat the Lakers 100-92 in the Western Conference Semifinals. It was a tough series filled with a lot of Aaron Brooks and Luis Scola, but the Lakers eventually prevailed in Game 7 en route to the first of the repeat championships. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Clippers Sign of the Apocalypse

LAst Night's Action: Clippers Sign of the Apocalypse

LA Clippers defeat New Orleans Hornets 99-95. The team with the best record in the NBA versus the team with the worst record in the NBA. It’s all academic, right? And it certainly looked that way when the Clippers trailed the Hornets by 12 in the middle of the second quarter. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Almost Bit by Wolves

LA Lakers defeat Minnesota Timberwolves 99-94. Being given the day off on Monday after their 25-point demolition of the Portland Trail Blazers Sunday night, the Lakers looked like they were still taking a day off as they played the Timberwolves. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Stung By Hornets Point Guards

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Stung By Hornets Point Guards

New Orleans Hornets defeat LA Lakers 108-100. Well the Lakers interrupted one hell of a high speed chase for this nonsense. It was too much Chris Paul and Darren Collison that once again exposed the Lakers inability to defend quick point guards. Meanwhile on the offensive end instead of trying to dictate play by attacking the paint, they settled for shooting threes ineffectively at a 24% clip. Pau Gasol in no way can be blamed for the loss tying a career high in rebounds with 22 while scoring 26 points. Kobe Bryant led all scorers with 31 points. But like I said it was too much Paul (15 points, 13 assists) and Collison (17 points). This should be an infuriating loss, but the more the Lakers play indifferently the more I feel indifferent about them. If they feel content about being 2-2 on this road trip, so be it. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Historic Win for Lakers

LAst Night's Action: Historic Win for Lakers

LA Lakers defeat Dallas Mavericks 100-95. Well the Lakers didn’t heed my suggestion in resting players. Kobe, Ron Artest and Sasha Vujacic played. The starting front court each had a double-double with Andrew Bynum getting 22 points and 11 boards, Lamar Odom with 18 points and 14 rebounds and Ron Artest with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Jordan Farmar also came up big with 12 crucial points leading the bench while Kobe was sitting out most of the game. While Dirk Nowitzki got his 20,000th point, the 34th player in NBA history to do so, the Lakers became the first NBA franchise to get their 3,000th victory. While the Lakers did look to have the game in the bag, the Mavs managed to tie the game at 95-95 with 42 seconds left in the game. But Kobe, even ailing, made a clutch jumper from the right elbow as the shot clock was expiring. Despite playing some bad defense, the Lakers did manage to make the lead stick. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Rout Hornets to First Place

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Rout Hornets to First Place

LA Lakers defeat New Orleans Hornets 110-99. The Lakers hang on just long enough defensively to give the Staples Center crowd their tacos. Andrew Bynum led all scorers with 21 points and nine rebounds while Kobe Bryant scored 18. The Hornets who were without Chris Paul and Peja Stojakovic were led by former UCLA point guard Darren Collison who scored 20. The Lakers blew the game open in the second quarter taking a 20 point lead going into the locker room at the half. While the Lakers dropped off the intensity a little bit in the fourth quarter, it’s yet another win for the Lakers who take the lead in the conference thanks to the Phoenix Suns losing to the New York Knicks. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Dominate Suns in Pacific Division Clash

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Dominate Suns in Pacific Division Clash

LA Lakers defeat Phoenix Suns 121-102. With both teams having only one loss in the Western Conference, this was supposed to be a very good game, but the Lakers decided to make it a laugher. With the Lakers leading 65-55 in the third quarter, they went on a 15-0 run to quash any hope for the Suns in making this a close game. Andrew Bynum in his first game back from sitting two games out with a bad elbow scored 26 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Kobe Bryant added 29 points. Josh Powell and Shannon Brown came off the bench impressively with Powell scoring 14 points in 19 minutes and Brown scoring 10 points in 15 minutes. Also their 78 points in the paint is the most since March 2000.However the Lakers 38.9% free throw shooting and 15 turnovers are causes for concern. With this victory head coach Phil Jackson is now 1,048-436 tying Larry Brown for fifth in NBA victories. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Clips Stung by Hornets

LAst Night's Action: Clips Stung by Hornets

Chicago Blackhawks defeat LA Kings 4-1. The Kings are reeling now losing two straight games in regulation after going 6-0-2. Penalty killing literally killed the Kings as they held strong for two periods holding a 1-1 tie. Third period power play goals by Troy Brouwer and Jonathan Toews blew the game open for the Blackhawks giving them an overall 73-72-21 lead all-time against the Kings. They Kings managed only 18 shots on goal all game including a paltry two shots in the third period. Anze Kopitar managed the only goal for the Kings in the second period giving him a league-leading 28 points making him the player to watch in the league. The loss leaves the four points behind the San Jose Sharks for the division and conference lead. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Scratch out a Win

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Scratch out a Win

LA Lakers defeat Milwaukee Bucks 104-98. The Lakers played another awful half of basketball but came back with effort in the second half to close out their seven game road trip with a win. They got stops on defense in the fourth quarter, but the Bucks made a late burst to come within three points with less than a minute remaining. Kobe Bryant scored 30 points while Pau Gasol had 15 points and Lamar Odom had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. The Lakers have seven games remaining with road games at Sacramento and Portland - both teams they have troubles with on the road. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Wednesday Night Just Like Tuesday

LAst Night's Action: Wednesday Night Just Like Tuesday

LA Lakers defeat Golden State Warriors 129-121. The Lakers had to work hard in this second game of a back-to-back. The trailed by as much as 12 points in the third quarter. But they shook off the doldrums and took control of the game at the end of the quarter. The Warriors didn't give up, but the trio of Kobe Bryant, Lamar Odom and Pau Gasol was just too much for them. Both teams had six players that scored in double digits. The Lakers with a 44-10 record have the third best record after 54 games in franchise history. In the other two seasons, 1971-1972 and 1987-1988, they won the NBA title. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Play Like They Mean It

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Play Like They Mean It

LA Lakers defeat New Orleans Hornets 100-87. Sometimes I really think the Lakers just want to fuck with us. They came out and played like the team we all thought they were. The Lakers held the Hornets to 42% shooting and Chris Paul to 17 points on 6-for-16 shooting and 10 assists. Offensively there really isn't anything to worry about with the Lakers aside from the occasional off-shooting night. Kobe and Pau got their points while Andrew Bynum stayed out of foul trouble. The last time the Lakers faced the Hornets they had a huge lead slip away to just three points at the end of the game. There was no such collapse this time around. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Clippers Are Still the Clippers

LAst Night's Action: Clippers Are Still the Clippers

New Orleans Hornets defeat LA Clippers 99-87. Clippers rookie sensation Eric Gordon proved that his one year at Indiana wasn't a fluke. He led the Clippers with 25 points while not Anthony Morrow-esque is still nothing to sneeze at. While three other starters scored double digits, it was still too little to combat the Hornets. Chris Paul had his sixth career triple-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 17 assists. David West made up for Paul's relative lack of scoring leading all scorers with 27 points. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Almost Let One Slip Away

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Almost Let One Slip Away

LA Lakers defeat New Orleans Hornets 93-86. With just under six minutes left in the game the Lakers had a 16-point lead. Just a mere 4:30 later the lead shrank to just three thanks to Chris Paul's NBA record seventh consecutive 20-10 game. But Kobe Bryant put the game away making a three-pointer with James Posey draped around him giving the Lakers an 86-80 lead. The Lakers would not be threatened thereafter. I thank the Lakers for making the game exciting while I was driving home from work but would prefer them to help me keep my blood pressure steady. The Lakers are now the only undefeated team at 7-0 and next face Allen Iverson and the Detroit Pistons at Staples on Friday. more ›

LAst Night's Action: DeWitt Does It Again

LAst Night's Action: DeWitt Does It Again

LA Dodgers defeat Cincinnati Reds 6-5. It looked like Brad Penny was still suffering from a stiff arm struggling most of his outing giving up five runs on nine hits in six innings. But the Dodgers, with an assist to the poor Red's defense, got him out of the game with a tie. After a single and an error to leadoff hitter Russell Martin and a infield out by Jeff Kent to advance Martin to third in the bottom of the ninth, Red's reliever David Weathers walks both James Loney and Matt Kemp to load the bases. Uber-rookie supreme Blake DeWitt grounds a 2-2 pitch to left-center getting a walk-off RBI single. It's wasn't pretty, but a slump-busting win is a win. Andruw Jones sat out of the game with a "sore knee". The Reds now haven't won a game in Dodger Stadium since July 2005 during the Jim Tracy days. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers are Number 1

LAst Night's Action: Lakers are Number 1

LA Lakers defeat Sacramento Kings 124-101. No tacos for the fans, but joy still rang out with the Lakers clinching the #1 seed in the Western Conference for the first time since the 1999-2000 season. If anyone predicted this 57-25 season after the chaos of last summer that simmered through training camp, they are liars. It's amazing what the emergence of Andrew Bynum, Lamar Odom, the bench and the Pau Gasol heist can do to a team. The Lakers now face either the Denver Nuggets or the Dallas Mavericks in the first round. more ›

The LAkers Story

The LAkers Story

Well, it’s official. Kobe is the only player in history besides Wilt Chamberlain to play four straight 50+ games. In Friday night’s game, Kobe scored exactly 50 points, carrying his team to a 111-105 win over the New Orleans Hornets. All eyes were watching, tallying each point he made. And Kobe did actually attempt to be humble: In a pre-game interview, he graciously told John Ireland that one of the best parts about being... more ›
