I'll go on the record and say that I think Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is the funniest movie in the last ten years. Will Ferrell's subsequent pictures--most of them amusing to varying degrees--have never lived up that early, brilliant standard. Semi-Pro is his latest picture and if its previews are any barometer of its quality, it looks like Ferrell has fallen short yet again. Don't get me wrong--I'm sure I'll laugh plenty, but I doubt that Jackie Moon will linger with me for very long after I've left the theater. Whither the apocryphal Anchorman 2?!

If you think you know what is a film about filmmaking and, more specifically, it's a film about the tight communities that form around the making of a film. It's a daffy ode to the hard work, compromise and wild invention that making a movie inevitably requires. Anyone who's ever made a low-budget film will love it.

MGM and New Line will co-finance and co-distribute two films, "The Hobbit" and a sequel to it. New Line will distribute in North America and MGM will distribute internationally.

Atonement hits theaters this weekend as one of the few, definite contenders for an Academy Award. It bears all the traditional hallmarks of an Oscar-caliber film: lavish period piece (check), excellent source novel (check), epic scope (check), high-powered English cast (check), nude scene from Keira Knightley (double check). There was a welcome flight to quality this weekend as movie-goers finally gave some love to a good flick. pulled in $39.1M and looks to be a hit for DreamWorks Animation.

One of the nice little bonus touches that some films include are outtakes as the credits roll, or fancy graphics, or a special scene telling everyone to leave the theater (a la "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"), but "Superbad" has taken it a step further. Anyone interested in movies is familiar with Ain't It Cool News and anyone familiar with Ain't It Cool is familiar with the Alamo Drafthouse Rolling Roadshow. The Roadshow was originally scheduled to make a stop in South Central to screen Friday next Friday, but lily-livered politicians decided to pull the permit at the last minute. Fortunately, the Roadshow decided they had to make a stop in L.A. so they've now scheduled a 10th anniversary screening of Boogie Nights for next Friday, July 21st.

Chevon is the owner and creative director of Heavenspot Graphic Design, which also created the animated Land of Burgers sequence in Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, as well as the game featured on the film's website.
