The Road Is a Cruel Mistress for Lakers and Clippers

The Road Is a Cruel Mistress for Lakers and Clippers

I honestly can’t say which was worse: the Lakers’ 106-101 come-from-ahead loss to the Washington Wizards or the Clippers’ come-from-behind-only-to-lose-anyhow 101-100 loss against the New Jersey Nets. Both losses were on the road against inferior teams, and both the Lakers and Clippers aren’t that great on the road. more ›

Lakers Say Adijo to Vujacic

Lakers Say Adijo to Vujacic

The Lakers announced a three-way trade with the New Jersey Nets and Houston Rockets. In the deal, the Lakers send the Nets guard Sasha Vujacic and a protected first-round draft pick in 2011; they get forward Joe Smith, the Golden State Warrior's second-round draft choice in 2011 and the Chicago Bulls' second-round draft choice in 2012 from the Nets; and the Lakers also receive the draft rights to Sergei Lishouk from Houston as well as a trade exception. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Kings Shark-Bitten

LAst Night's Action: Kings Shark-Bitten

San Jose Sharks defeat LA Kings 6-3. The Kings came into the game leading the Western Conference in points and with a six-game win streak, but they came out flat-footed up in the Shark Tank in San Jose. The Kings, thanks to the Sharks forecheck, kept turning the puck over on their blue line. Of course goalie Jonathan Bernier’s inability to freeze the puck didn’t help things either. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Overwhelm Pacers

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Overwhelm Pacers

LA Lakers defeat Indiana Pacers 118-96. Things looked dicey for the champs on their Grammy tour in the first half. The Pacers came out with a small lineup and really pushed the tempo. Either that or the Lakers were feeling a bit sluggish after their dismantling of the Washington Wizards the previous night. Either way they went into the locker room at half time with only a three point advantage. But the boys woke up in the second half with a huge dose of Andrew Bynum. Bynum scored 27 points while grabbing 12 boards. Even Kobe Bryant who had 29 points seemed to defer to Bynum at times. Pau Gasol added 21 points and 13 rebounds while Lamar Odom rounded out with 12 points and 14 rebounds. The Lakers now head over to Philly on Friday for a warmup to their mondo mega death match against the Boston Celtics. more ›

LAist's Sunday Morning Action

Lakers 103, Washington Wizards 91 - The game wasn’t as close as the final score indicates. The Lakers led by 22 at halftime, and led by as much as 25 points in the third quarter. Kobe Bryant, who outscored the Wizards in the first quarter 19-15, ended up with 30 points on 10-15 shooting with eight free throws. Vladamir Radmanovic, Lamar Odom and Ronny Turiaf rounded out the starters with double-figure scoring, and Sasha Vujacic came off the bench with 12 points (contract year anyone?). more ›

Are The Lakers Kidd-ing?

Are The Lakers Kidd-ing?

At the heart of the swirling vortex of NBA trade rumors this week is a whopper involving the Lakers -- the chance to bring in All-Star point guard Jason Kidd. It’s the big topic on local and national sports talk radio, basketball message boards and barstool conversations. It’s the sports talk equivalent of Anna Nicole this week. You probably don’t want to be Kidd’s wife, but being his teammate makes a lot of sense for... more ›

Doing Fine, Thank You Very Much

Doing Fine, Thank You Very Much

Tonight, when the Lakers take the floor in the underrated city of Charlotte (5:30, KCAL9), it will be their 10th game since Lamar Odom went down with a sprained knee. It also is the end of their first long road trip. more ›

Get Out Your #2 Pencils

Get Out Your #2 Pencils

Just what do we know about this season’s Lakers after nine games? We know they can win with Kobe dragging one leg behind him (although he looked better Friday night against Toronto, to the point that Phil Jackson benched him for “imposing his will” on the game and ignoring teammates). We know that young guys like Andrew Bynum, Jordan Farmar and Ronny Turiaf can take on more than maybe we thought. We know Luke Walton is developing into quite a player. more ›
