Tonight English-born American singer-songwriter, actress, and former stand-up comedian Nellie McKay will be performing Doris Day's songbook at the Echoplex. LA's own rock and roots singer-songwriter Dave Alvin is poised to grace McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Mon Mon. And, lastly, Tustin-by-way-of-Denver folk rock outfit Travel By Sea will be taking on the Bootleg Theater. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Dakota Live Music Lounge to catch local electro-infused indie rock duo boxViolet. LA-based alternative rockers the Useless Keys are slated to perform as well.

Tonight In Rock: Air, Nellie McKay, Thee Oh Sees, Devon Williams
Tonight English-born American singer-songwriter, actress, and former stand-up comedian Nellie McKay will be performing Doris Day's songbook at the Alex Theatre in Glendale. Prolific San Franciscan experimental garage rockers Thee Oh Sees are poised to headline KSCR Fest at USC's E.F. Hutton/Founders Park with none other than Eagle Rock-bred indie rock outfit Princeton (LAist Interview), LA-bred psych rock trio the Entrance Band and local blues-infused indie rock duo Rumspringa (LAist Review, #2, #3), among many others. And, lastly, Oakland-by-way-of-D.C. indie pop label Slumberland Records will be ringing in twenty some-odd years of its existence at the Echo with Boston-bred trio Pants Yell!, Melbourne-based sextet Summer Cats and local singer-songwriter Devon Williams, among many other label mates of course. But we strongly suggest doing whatever it takes to get into the Walt Disney Concert Hall to catch critically-acclaimed French duo Air. Tulsa-bred singer-songwriter AM is slated to kick things off.
Lady Party IV @ The Bang Studio, 2/23
Welcome to the world of sex, strippers and women’s studies students. If you were to say, hey, that sounds a little like the beginning of the feminist version of “a rabbi, a priest and a minister walk into a bar,” you’d be right…but au contraire, mon amie. It is the fairly serious basis of Heather Woodbury’s one-woman show, "The Last Days of Desmond ‘Nani’ Reese: A Stripper's History of the World," which was the first half of Lady Party IV at the Bang Studio last Saturday.

Austinist Outs Over 100 More SXSW Bands
Our pals over at Austinist have been doing a bang-up job of Internet sleuthing, Googling, and MySpacing to confirm over 500 bands that will play SXSW even though the Austin music festival refuses to cooperate. After taking last week off because we were sure SXSW would release their master plan, we now return as there seems to be no end in sight to the band list embargo. Many indie labels and some marquee acts...
TV Junkie: Another Hour of '24'; 'Heroes' & 'Studio 60' Are Back
A Word or 80: Spent the weekend in Canada, my first visit, in the province of Quebec to be exact. I found the radio programming to be innovative and excellent but television sucked. I'm sure there's some good programmes (please give me cred for the spelling) out there but in a first glance/overview kind of perspective it was wanting. Dear Canuck friends, don't take it personally, American TV sucks for the most part as...
