A caller named Israel on the Jim Rome radio show diagnosed the Laker bench perfectly. The bench is awful because they like being on the bench while most other teams’ benches want to be in the starting lineup.
Given an eight-point lead at the start of the fourth quarter the bench decided the paint was too much to handle and settled for jump shots missing all of them while the Jazz came up with two important steals.
Alarm Call for the Lakers Bench
You Worried About the Lakers?
I am going to take full credit for the Lakers 111-87 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 5 of their first round playoff series Tuesday night. Until this game I really haven’t been paying attention to the Lakers since they don’t allow us at LAist press access and the Kings who do were making a playoff drive of their own. But with the Kings’ season over as of Sunday, it was time to refocus my attention on the Purple and Gold.
Better Watch What You Wish For
I still say the Lakers will defeat the Denver Nuggets in six games. But it's not this series that I'm finding all that compelling.
Out in the east, we are witnessing an Orlando Magic team that is tearing apart the Cleveland Cavaliers. Aside from the Magic's 10-point victory in game three, all games have been close: one point margins in games one and two and a two point victory by the Magic in game four.
Lakers Can Win But Will They?
That had to be one of the most frustrating Lakers playoff series in recent memory. The undermanned Houston Rockets team sans Tracy McGrady, Dikembe Mutombo and as of game three Yao Ming had no business being in that series. That should have been at worst a five-game series. But the Lakers sometime lackadaisical play kept the Rockets in the series making superstars out of Luis Scola, Shane Battier and Aaron Brooks.
What's Wrong with the Lakers?
I really don't know what's wrong with the Lakers. If anyone did surely it would be head coach Phil Jackson and his coaching staff. Then Lakers fans wouldn't be sitting in a pit of 780.7, the ICM-9 code for malaise.
Lakers vs Houston: What Me, Worry?
A week after the Lakers sent the Utah Jazz packing, they embark on the second round of the playoffs against the Houston Rockets.
Lakers Postscript
This has been a very difficult post to write. The completely embarrassing game six that ended the Laker’s season was just very hard to stomach and left a lot of questions.
Lakers Crawl into a Hole
It's over, and I don't think I've felt sicker than I do now. 131-92. And to the fucking Celtics.
Lakers Do or Die
One of the first things to remember about the Lakers is to expect the unexpected.
Lakers Still Have a Pulse
In a game that was almost a carbon copy of game four, the Lakers escaped with a 103-98 victory. The Lakers started the game in sync again ending the first quarter with a 17-point lead. The Celtics came storming back in the second quarter with a 15-0 run going into the locker room at the half with a three-point deficit.
The Lakers' Time for Truth
As much as the Celtics ripped the Lakers the other day, deep down inside I still have some hope for the Lakers to pull it out.
Stick a Fork in Them
Gutless. Pathetic. Pitiful. Sorry. And that’s being generous to the Lakers.
Lakers Need a Shot of Lamar
It’s been a long time since a winning team of an NBA Final’s game looked like a team destined to lose the series.
Lakers Need to Get Physical
People around the city are bemoaning about the horrible job the referees are doing in the NBA Finals. One of the more outrageous conspiracy theories involves the refs deliberately calling the game against the Lakers so that the series would go a full seven games.
Dream a Little Dream
It’s funny how things can change in the NBA Playoffs in the span of a month.
It Ends Tonight
It all comes down to this. One night. A grueling, six-month season, all decided in 48 minutes on the court. Unfortunately for the Clippers, the court in question will be the Rose Garden in Portland, where the Golden St. Warriors play the Blazers. A win for the Warriors and they advance to the playoffs for the first time in 13 years. A loss opens the door for the Clips to potentially sneak in if they...
LA Basketball... A Win Win Situation
Yes, the Lakers (45-37). The Ol' Zen Master did a great coaching job this season. Having the offense run through the best player in the league and FINALLY getting the potential out of Lamar Odom and Kwame Brown, especially down the stretch. Along the way to wrapping up the 7th seed, Kobe grabbed the scoring title with the highest scoring average (over 35 a game) in 19 years... 19!!! And lets face it, the Lakers needed every point. They will square off against the Phoenix Suns (54-28) who know how to put up some points of their own. They own one of the highest TEAM scoring averages in the league and have a player (and MVP candidate) in Steve Nash that makes EVERY man on the floor dangerous. Yeah this is a tough draw for the Lakers but they do have a fighting chance. Especially with Kobe in our corner. We will see how that goes down starting Sunday.
