The Kings Win!

The Kings Win!

The season wasn’t supposed to go like this. After winning five of their first seven games, the Kings have stumbled losing six of their next seven. That was not supposed to happen with their much-heralded offseason acquisitions of Mike Richards and Simon Gagne for the offense. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Chris Paul and Hornets Sting Lakers in Game 1

LAst Night's Action: Chris Paul and Hornets Sting Lakers in Game 1

Normally a Laker loss in the playoffs isn’t cause for concern, but losing Game 1 to a seven-seed? Maybe a little alarming. The last time the Lakers lost Game 1 at home was on May 4, 2009 when the Houston Rockets beat the Lakers 100-92 in the Western Conference Semifinals. It was a tough series filled with a lot of Aaron Brooks and Luis Scola, but the Lakers eventually prevailed in Game 7 en route to the first of the repeat championships. more ›

Angry Birds Attack Dodger Stadium

Angry Birds Attack Dodger Stadium

64 years ago Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier when he crossed the line at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn, NY. Aside from every player wearing the number 42 and a nice pregame video presentation complete with Don Newcombe throwing the ceremonial first pitch, the game didn’t have a ceremonial vibe their 11-2 loss against the St. Louis Cardinals notwithstanding. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Predators Beat Ducks' Quack

LAst Night's Action: Predators Beat Ducks' Quack

Nashville Predators Anaheim Ducks 4-1. Back in 2003 the then-Mighty Ducks of Anaheim rode goalie Jean-Sebastian Giguere into a game seven of the Stanley Cup Finals. The Ducks probably never wanted to be on the other end of things, but Predators’ goalie Pekka Rinne’s 27 saves helped give the team the early 1-0 series lead over the Ducks. more ›

Kings Hunted by Preds 5-2

Kings Hunted by Preds 5-2

The Kings have been consistent lately. Consistently bad that is. Despite head coach Terry Murray's shake up of the lines, the Kings continued to spiral downward in their embarrassing 5-2 loss to the Nashville Predators. “We're not competing, we're not doing those little things and our work ethic is low so that's going to be the result,” captain Dustin Brown said. It's hard to argue with him. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Clippers Shoot Nuggets

LAst Night's Action: Clippers Shoot Nuggets

The most entertaining basketball team in Los Angeles did it again. They held the Denver Nuggets who averaged 106.7 points per game to only 93 points. Particularly helpful was DeAndre Jordan's six blocked shots. But Jordan also got it done on the glass with 20 rebounds - only the second time in his career he reached that mark - to go along with his 14 points. Blake Griffin also had a double-double with 22 points and 18 rebounds. The play that really got a rise out of the crowd was when Griffin in a change of pace threw the alley to Jordan's oop in the fourth quarter. more ›

Kings Ice Predators in Smyth's Millennial Achievement

Kings Ice Predators in Smyth's Millennial Achievement

There were a couple of issues for the Kings coming into their game against the Nashville Predators. Being a young team, would they respond after an emotional win Thursday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning? Also, would the Kings defend their home ice against the Predators despite losing their last five games against Predators at STAPLES Center dating back to Jan. 8, 2008? more ›

LAst Night's Action: USC Sunk By Field Goal Again

LAst Night's Action: USC Sunk By Field Goal Again

#16 Stanford Cardinal defeat USC Trojans 37-35. The second verse was the same as the first. After being unable to stop the Washington Huskies from traveling down the field for a game winning field goal, USC do the same thing again as Andrew Luck and the Stanford offense marched down the field for the game winning 30-yard field goal. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Kings No Prey for Predators

LAst Night's Action: Kings No Prey for Predators

LA Kings defeat Nashville Predators 2-0. This was a game where the unheralded players became the unsung heroes. Going into the game the Kings had not beaten the Predators since March 13, 2008 in Nashville and after their recent four-game losing streak it didn’t look optimistic. But Jonathan Bernier relieved Jonathan Quick... more ›

Bad Calls and Lethargy Litter Kings Loss to Predators

Bad Calls and Lethargy Litter Kings Loss to Predators

Daylight savings time, afternoon matinee and bad calls on both ends by referee Dean Morton doomed the Kings in their 3-2 loss to the Nashville Predators before 18,118 at Staples Center, the Kings’ 17th sellout of the season. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Get By Suns

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Get By Suns

LA Lakers defeat Phoenix Suns 102-96. After leading by seven points at the half, the Lakers extended their lead to 15 points. Treating the paint as if it were filled with landmines, the Lakers clanged jump shot after jump shot while Steve Nash then kicked it in full gear for the Suns who went on an 11-2 run to end the third period to bring the game within four. The Suns would eventually take the lead just under three minutes into the fourth quarter, but the Lakers then decided that attacking the paint might be a good idea. After not going to the charity stripe at all in the third quarter, the Lakers were awarded with ten shots at the free throw line. Two of those came via technical fouls when Suns coach Alvin Gentry went crazy when a flagrant foul was not called on Pau Gasol when he fouled Louis Amundson. Kobe Bryant had a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds while the Suns Amare Stoudemire led all scorers with 29 points and 16 rebounds. Ron Artest got his shot going getting 15 points while Lamar Odom had four points on 2-for-8 shooting. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Downed by Heat

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Downed by Heat

Miami Heat defeat LA Lakers 114-111 (OT). The Lakers didn’t start their tough three game East Coast road trip on a winning note. The Lakers and the Heat played a close game with 19 ties and 31 lead changes, the most in the NBA this season. Neither team led by more than five points. Although Kobe Bryant made a jumper with three seconds left in regulation to tie the game up, there would be no heroics from Kobe for the winner in this meeting. Kobe led all scorers with 39 points seemingly working out all the kinks from his recent shooting woes. All Lakers starters scored in double digits with Lamar Odom adding 13 points and 11 rebounds off the bench. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Ducks Skate Past Predators in Overtime

LAst Night's Action: Ducks Skate Past Predators in Overtime

Anaheim Ducks defeat Nashville Predators 4-3 (OT). While it's a good thing the Ducks won the game, they gave the Predators a point by allowing the game to go to overtime. With the season ending the Ducks can't afford to give away points. Teemu Selanne hit the game winning goal on an assist by Chris Pronger after only 34 seconds had elapsed in overtime in a power play situation. The Ducks are only three points out of a playoff spot and have a favorable schedule down the stretch. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Kings Stumble Down the Stretch

LAst Night's Action: Kings Stumble Down the Stretch

Nashville Predators defeat LA Kings 4-3. The Kings fell late in the third period when the Predators Ryan Jones scored a goal with 2:18 remaining. With a power play and the goalie pulled, the Kings could not pull out a goal. With 13 games left, the Kings are now six points away from a playoff spot. The chances are now very slim, but the Kings cannot afford another regulation loss if they want to make it to the postseason. more ›

Kings LaBarbera Crowned NHL's Star of the Week

Kings LaBarbera Crowned NHL's Star of the Week

After stumbling out of the gate, your Los Angeles Kings have won 4 in a row, and suddenly find themselves back to .500 with a not-too embarrassing record of 6-6. A lot of credit for the recent surge goes to the solid play of goalie Jason LaBarbera. People in LA might not have noticed, but the good folks who run the NHL have, and consequently, today they named LaBarbera as the league’s #1 star... more ›

Bargain of the Year Helping Kings Turn the Tide

Bargain of the Year Helping Kings Turn the Tide

Just one week ago, the Kings were a miserable 1-5 and it looked as though desperate managerial measures would be coming down the pipes. After a 6-0 pounding the LA boys laid down on the Nashville Predators tonight, the Kings are a far more respectable 4-6. One storyline has changed, while another has stayed the same. What's different is that the Kings have exhibited stable defending and offensive production, enough to win three of the last four. What has not changed is that the Kings have one hell of a bargain in young Michael Cammalleri. more ›

The Ice has Melted

The Ice has Melted

Bettman and the NHL owners should be ashamed that they let this happen. After finally getting the players to agree to a salary cap, how could they not let it go up to $49 million? How could they cancel a whole season on being $6.5 million apart? The idea of a salary cap is 100 times more important than the actual cap number. Getting the union to agree to a cap is one of the greatest accomplishments in NHL labor history. But the owners blew a chance to save their season and their sport. more ›
