John Tejada is one of LA's greatest techno treasures. This video, featuring the globally successful Tejada DJing to the visual backdrop of VJ Fader, was from last year's NAMM convention week in Los Angeles. On Thursday, the DJ/producer will be spinning at a new weekly on the Westside at Bar Pico in Santa Monica where he will DJ alongside Halo and Morgan Alexander at Bottom Floor. Event proceeds will benefit NextAid.

NAMM Rocks Anaheim: Saturday
Last week NAMM took over Anaheim, bringing its endless expanse of music equipment, some serious weirdness, and attracting some of the best musicians in the biz. Big hitters this year included Yoko Ono, Steve Vai, Rancid, Bootsy Collins and Shela E.
Scam into NAMM
NAMM (National Assocoiation of Music Merchants) holds an annual convention in Los Angeles. For a few years it was held at the Los Angeles Convention Center, but soon moved back to its home at The Anaheim Convention Center. There are over 1500 exhibitors, who are there launching new products, hosting signings, and organizing jam sessions. The thing about NAMM is that it is not open to the public--not for any price. It is industry only. So it is common practice to hit up friendly guitar shop owners, PR reps, and your sound guy's second cousin to try to get a pass. Last year press passes were only given on site. You had to show up with proof of past NAAM coverage and didn't even know if you were in until you had already hassled with driving and parking.
Soulive @ The Knitting Factory, 1/19/08
Every January, organ trio, Soulive heads out to Southern California for The NAMM Show. While the trio of Eric Krasno, Neal Evans and Alan Evans take part in the gathering of music industry professionals, they also book themselves a few concerts in Anaheim and Los Angeles to give the SoCal Soulive heads a taste of their trademark jazzy funk sound.
