'REthinking' Cherokee Studios as Green Live-Work Lofts

Hollywood's Cherokee Studios is poised to re-emerge as an innovative LEED-certified work/live space this year. The site itself is steeped in local music history; recording artists ranging from Frank Sinatra to David Bowie laid down tracks inside the walls, and before that it was home to movie's Republic Studios. After over 30 years of proprietorship, the Robb brothers closed the doors to the legendary studios in 2007, but now the REthink Development team is finalizing work on the space, which will now be called the Cherokee Lofts and will hopefully be legendary in its own time.

American Idol celebrates music, yet at the same time, it apparently cheats its own musicians who make the show happen. The American Federation of Musicians filed a suit that alleges American Idol Productions Inc. and Tick Tock Productions Inc. its subsidiary, broke a collective bargaining agreement that says the musicians are to be paid royalties for rebroadcasts.

One thing I love about L.A. are all the little shops and cafes that let us poor starving artists leave flyers or put up posters for our many different events. Here is a list of just a few such kind souls, to help my fellow independents, and also just to say a heartfelt thanks! (I hope you don't hate me.)
