Muse is one of the largest Halloween parties in Los Angeles, taking over the Los Angeles County Museum of Art for the weekend. The big draw is the crowd, a creative bunch who take their costumes seriously. There is always something amazing and creative. This year the theme was "Heroes and Villains."

All over the city last night people dressed up and gathered to celebrate Halloween. Many flocked to the MUSE party held annually at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, where creativity and ingenuity and the artistic were in full force in the form of costumes. Here is just a small sampling of the insanity.
"This is our Homecoming show," an always energetic Dave Grohl yelled at a stopping point in the Foo Fighters two+ hour long set Wednesday night, as expected the sold-out Forum crowd lit up with cheers and screams of approval. With good reason too as the Foos have become the torch-bearers for this generations version of bold and bombastic, arena rock.(with Muse hot on their heels) There are very few bands touring today that can match the energy the Foo Fighters bring to their arena show and Wednesday's show proved their mastery.
A sad week for LAist as they lose their trusted and amazing editor Tony Pierce to the LA Times, but what a blast his last week was. He shared his 25 Favorite CDs of 2007 and wrote a great review of just a good movie, No Country For Old Men. At UCLA, thousands of students celebrated the end of their quarter by running around campus in their undies (lots of photos in a two-part photo essay, one, two). That wasn't the only photo essay either: Joss Whedon/Mutant Enemy friends and Star Trek actors all joined in at the Writers Strike and KROQ's Almost Acoustic Christmas brought two nights of amazing bands that included Avenged Sevenfold, Linkin Park (Part I), Modest Mouse, Muse, Spoon and The Killers (Part II). Not only is L.A. a great music town, it has just been named the best city for bookish types. For those who are looking for something a little more active, American Gladiators are back (yes!) and if that's not enough, how about a Christmas gift of action and adventure?
One look at the bill for Night Two of KROQ's Almost Acoustic Christmas one might think with all of the INDIE flavor that that LA's "other" rock station was behind the programming. But alas it was KROQ and Night Two featured great performances by Modest Mouse, Muse, Feist, Silversun Pickups, Jimmy Eat World, Spoon and a surprise unannounced performance from the Killers.

In it's 3rd year of existence, this past weekend's Vegoose Music Festival featured quite the impressive lineup. Boasting the final North American Show of the ever incredible Daft Punk and the final stop of Rage Against the Machine's reunion (tour), the fest also included great performances from Gogol Bordello, Muse, M.I.A. and many, many more. Follow the jump for tonnnns (literally) of pics of Muse, Queens of the Stone Age, M.I.A., Gogol Bordello, Queens...
This past weekend, Vegas's own Sam Boyd Stadium was home to the 3rd annual Vegoose music festival which featured a few small-time bands you may have heard of, like Rage Against the Machine, Daft Punk, Muse, Iggy and the Stooges, LAist made the obligatory road trip out to Sin City to bring you some coverage on one of the more succsessful new music fests, (which, by the way, is brought to us by the same people who put on Bonnaroo.) Check out some costumes and environmental shots after the jump, and stay tuned for some interviews, vids, and band pics later this week!
Saturday night's huge LACMA Halloween party sold out so quickly I had to buy my tickets on Ebay. Even then, 40 bucks a ticket for an entire night of drinking, hors d' ouvres, DJs, and entry into the Dali exhibition sounded too good to be true. It was definitely clear where corners were cut to make the event affordable. But I don't know anywhere you will find more creative costumes. Even WeHo has some...

Here at LAist we've been a tad OCD about things lately. We had our little Spoon-fest last week, and our green movement today with Green LA Girl as our guest editor, so I suppose it's only fair that DAFT PUNK is our new obsession. Yes, we shared with you one of our favorite videos of all time for Harder, Better, Stronger, Faster (and what else those hands can do is on our list of...
Although they always have pretty good lineups, San Diego's Street Scene never seems to get our attention. Until now. Today they announced that The Killers, Muse, Panic! at the Disco, Social Distortion, Air, Arctic Monkeys, Too $hort, G. Love, The Editors, The Academy Is..., Clap Your Hands And Say Yeah, Gym Class Heroes, Mute Math, Honeycut, Ozomatli and others will play their two day festival down by the ocean in Del Mar, but what...
Leah Muse is a young wife whose husband just happens to be an up-and-coming rock star, signed to Orange County's Northern Records. The band, Quiet Company is on their summer tour and we were lucky enough to have Leah write about what it's like being the only girl in a van full of bearded rockers. Some of you ladies that have hopes of dating a rockstar, are currently dating a rockstar, even married a...
We know we listed them a few posts below, but this is a band who bears repeating... and hyping. If you recall, in March we went to SXSW in Austin and had a little battle of the bands of sorts. LAist got a few bands from LA, and we invited some bands from Austin to play at the LAist SXSW party. We had never heard of Quiet Company, and quite frankly, their name didn't...
So I heard it first tonight via the hot lips of G4TV's Olivia: the new Guitar Hero III (slated to be released on all "next generation" platforms - that means the Wii, the PS3, and the XBox 360), will include songs by Weezer, Muse, Heart, Tenacious D, The Rolling Stones, and The Smashing Pumpkins. Joystiq confirmed the dirty details, and we will get to RAWK on songs like "Barracuda," "Cherub Rock" and even Living Colour's "Cult of Personality" - sweet!

There are plenty of web-comics around to compete for your attention, but if you’re in the market, Big Head Press has one called La Muse that’s really slick. You want action? Check. You want shadowy conspiracies? Check. You want updates every week? Check. You want nicely drawn ass-kicking womenfolk? Check! La Muse plays with the story of Susan, an activist with super powers who is bent on saving the world from itself, and the...

It might not always feel like it, but LAist loves its readers. We do this for you. So while we were t-p-ing your block, smashing pumpkins, changing the street signs, and defacing the letters on the Hollywood sign to spell "wood lol!", it dawned on us that we probably shouldn't still be doing liquid acid at our age on the dark hillsides of LA. And then we realized that we should be more "interactive"...

San Francisco: Check. San Diego: Check. Sacramento, Fresno, Bakersfield: check, check, check. Los Angeles: _________ That's right folks, Guns N' Roses announced their West Coast tour dates and LA was not on it. Surf it down to San Diego or ride it up over the Grapevine because there is no jungle in this town of bogus palm trees. But wait, wait, don't tell me! They are indeed playing nearby at KROQ's Inland Invasion in...
She's hot, she can sing, she can dance, and she's not married to KFed. Smartest move Christina Aguilera ever did was pull a full 180 on the trainwreck which once was her rival, Britney Spears, by doing something that Brit can't do right now: slink into a tight little dress and belt out classy hit after classy hit. On a double album... while still being a diva with that platinum 'do and those ridiculously...
Looks like Inland Invasion is going to be a quasi-metal onslaught, nearly as meaty as Ozzfest, but just like most things KROQ these days, a tad watered-down and lacking. Guns N' Roses are the headliners of the Sept 23rd festival, and they're lacking a good chunk of Guns N' Roses. Hell, you don't even get Buckethead any more. Irony abounds as bassist Tommy Stinson now plays with Guns -- his first band was... The...
that we want to kill anyone and everyone that makes a "something on a something" joke. But then we realized that there was no way we could ever win this fight, and, hell, if you can't beat them, we might as well join them. And with that, you have the theme of this weeks' Gothamist network post.
