Aerosmith, Judas Priest, Motley Crue, Steely Dan: Let's Go Listen To Records

Since the advent of the mp3 era, there’s been a lot of talk about the death of the “album” as a medium for music delivery. As the argument goes, bands have no incentive to write forty-five consecutive minutes’ worth of content, since consumers no longer have to sit through three decent-to-mediocre tracks to get to the one they like, buried in the middle of side two. Now that the listening experience is entirely customizable, those deep cuts that never passed muster for airplay or “best of” collections will be tossed away like so many pot seeds, completely unheard by the audience that only cares about their favorite songs.

When globetrotting electronic dance music DJs come to town the energy is rock-show thick. The tough, loud music. The sparkling visuals along side layers of multicolored flashing lights. The rabid crowd. These elements unite, and fans are delivered something special. Drew “Rukes” Ressler’s job is to capture that nocturnal magic.

About three-quarters of the way through Motley Crue’s set at the Palladium, Nikki Sixx paused for a moment to address the crowd.

Los Angeles-based trio Street Drum Corps are living proof that the Hollywood rock star dream can never die. Widely recognized as the "punk rock Stomp" group that plays every stage from drum circles to huge arenas, the boys of SDC are right where they want to be; opening for LA metal gods Motley Crüe. With the show coming up this Friday, we got a chance to speak with front man Bobby Alt about the bands humble beginnings and how they worked their way up to sharing the stage with one of metal's biggest groups.

There’s certainly no shortage of seasonally creepy movies to choose from, from the cartoonish to the sickeningly realistic, whatever floats your boat. But if you prefer all your eggs in one basket - cartoonishly evil violence in documentary form – prepare to stay glued to the computer screen for half an hour.

If you go as far west as you can in West Hollywood on Santa Monica Blvd., right before you wind up in Beverly Hills you will see the Troubadour - one of the most famous rock clubs in the world - established in 1957.

Even though the Police have been practicing in Vancouver, BC, the band will be holding at least two public rehearsals here in Los Angeles, one on Monday at the legendary Sunset Strip rock club, The Whisky, made famous by bands like The Doors, Love, and Motley Crue. Sunday the band will rehearse as the opening act of the Grammys at Staples Center, made famous by Shaquille O'Neal. If for some bizarre reason you happen...

Maybe we're crazy, but we can't think of anything finer than driving to San Berdu and seeing Aerosmith and Motley Crue tonight at the Glen Helen. The Crue are putting together a movie about their career and Aerosmith is simply rocking out. After the jump our favorite tune from Steven Tyler and the gents....

Although it might be tempting to stay home tonight to watch the results come in, they won't all be in until early tomorrow morning. So do yourself a favor and look at that list. Look at it. That is probably the best lineup of shows we've seen in LA all year. If you don't see a show tonight, on a beautiful night, pretty much the last day of summer, then well... good. More beer...

For the past few weeks, Supernova – a new group pieced together from Motley Crue (Tommy Lee), Metallica (Jason Newsted) and Guns N' Roses (Gilby Clarke) – has been auditioning lead singers on CBS, and some are quite good like Dilana, Josh and Storm. But then there’s Zayra.

Tonight is National Night Out. Do you know where your neighborhood night out is taking place? Bugs! Mosquitoes with West Nile at the Sepulveda Basin. A Japanese man is arrested at LAX for trying to sneak in rare butterflies. Black Widows are charged with killing homeless men. But these are no typical widows and LA's Homeless Blog is not happy. It's all about ordinances over at blogging.la: New Spay/Neuter Ordinance for Dogs & Fixed-Gear...

After being all 4th of July-ed out, this LAist poster settled in for a mellow night in front of the boob tube. But the network pickings were slim. We're talking skinnier than Nicole Richie.
