Video of the Day: Your East Side Moment of Zen
We're always moving, moving, moving here in Los Angeles, and mostly in our vehicles. Here's a look at how we move, set to soothing music by Erik Satie, and shot around Silverlake, Echo Park, Los Feliz, Griffith Park and downtown by Clark Vogeler. It's your moment of zen on a sunny day on LA's east side...and for the sake of the calm nature of this video, let's not re-hash the ages-old "what's east/what's west side" debate, mmmkay? Just enjoy.
Seeking Transparency Within a Troubled LADWP
Have a frank talk with an LADWP official this month and they'll tell you it's been a tough few weeks. The perception of the city-owned utility has gone downhill amid a series of water main breaks, the sudden resignation of David Nahai (however, with a comfy consulting gig) and one moderate rainstorm knocking out electricity service to nearly 50,000 customers.

Loophole in Medical Marijuana Dispensary Ban Nearing Closure
A motion to fill a loophole in Los Angeles' moratorium on new medical marijuana dispensaries was approved by a City Council committee today. In 2007 when the ban was set, routine ordinance language provided dispensaries a chance to apply for "hardship exemptions," demonstrating why they should not be included in the ban, even if they had not fulfilled basic requirements like showing proof of insurance, a business tax license and other documents. Around 500 applications have been submitted, according to the city's Council File Management System (search "marijuana") and none of have acted upon, but dispensaries continue to open around the city. The moratorium will expire in September. A copy of today's motion, which should move to the full City Council soon, is below:

After passing out of the transportation committee last week, the motion to extend Metro Red Line service to 3:00 a.m. Thursday through Saturday nights from November 1st to January 3rd will be considered by City Council today.
