Morrissey Fans Occupy Hollywood Blvd. For Tickets to Rare, Last Minute Concert

Monday afternoon, local devotees of melancholic British alt-rock icon Morrissey learned their mighty Moz was adding a last minute, intimate Ticketmasterless concert Wednesday night at the Henry Fonda/Music Box Theatre. With strict rules regarding ticketing--cash only, 2-per-person limit, at venue box office only--fans lined the street outside the Fonda as the noon on-sale time approached. more ›

It's November. Wow. What happened to 2011? We assume many of you are trembling a little with us after realizing that there are just two months left of the year. In honor of November 1, today's video lunch serves up a few appropriately November-themed music videos, as identified by Encore. more ›

Tonight In Rock: Morrissey, Kenneth Pattengale, Abe Vigoda, Pearl Harbor

Tonight legendary British alternative rock singer-songwriter Morrissey will be headlining at the Gibson Amphitheatre. Local singer-songwriter Kenneth Pattengale is poised to grace the Hotel Café. And, lastly, LA-based experimental punk outfit Abe Vigoda will be taking on R Bar. But we strongly suggest heading over to Synchronicity to catch local lo-fi pop trio Pearl Harbor. more ›

TV Junkie: Obama-Leno Ratings; Leno on 'Top Gear'

According to the LA Times, about 1 in 4 TVs were tuned to "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" when President Barack Obama made an appearance last week. Leno has had higher ratings only 3 other times in the past, but the media space is a lot more crowded than it was even 4 years ago, so it was a stellar night for NBC. more ›

TV Junkie: More 'Big Love'; Morrissey on Kimmel; Mad Man on '30 Rock'

Ryan Seacrest Tries To Boost Indie Street Cred, To No Avail

Ryan Seacrest Tries To Boost Indie Street Cred, To No Avail

There's nothing more piteous than a prominent media personality attempting to be hip and omniscient (except maybe attempting to give a blind dude a high five). And that's exactly what happened a few moments ago when American Idol host and "celebrity wrangler" Ryan Seacrest posted an unsubstantiated, preemptive bill for this year's Coachella via his website and twitter. The post, entitled "Coachella Line-Up Announced!," surfaced around 11 AM this morning, touting Nine Inch Nails, Morrissey, Franz Ferdinand, Katy Perry, The Killers, Neil Young, Adele, Foo Fighters, Public Enemy and Lupe Fiasco as headliners. more ›

Coachella 2009: Rumored And Confirmed

Coachella 2009: Rumored And Confirmed

It is the start of a new year and that means we're slouching towards Southern California's biggest music festivals, starting with Coachella in the middle of April. And, as usual, the internet is simply ablaze with line-up rumors. But this year, much like last, crazed fans have taken things a step further on the festival's message board, going as far as to contact bands directly for confirmation. more ›

Whispertown 2000's Top Ten of 2008

Whispertown 2000's Top Ten of 2008

December is list-making season. And for us music journalists, it is a time to look back on scores of albums, reflect upon the music and recapitulate our favorites. But this year, just like the last, we took this opportunity to flip that tradition upside down, asking the artists that influenced us what influenced them. The prompt was not limited to albums that came out in 2008. more ›

Tonight in Rock: Killola, Girl in a Coma, HAIM

Fresh off their tour with Morrissey, Girl in a Coma is playing their third and final show with Killola tonight in Glendale at The Scene. One Killola member says that the "shows have been extra saucy, and filled with hot love." We'll let you make your own decision. Joan Jett did when she visited the two bands last week to just to listen and have a good time. more ›

Deacon Booze: LAist Happy Hour

Is it still raining? Seriously? Sigh. Since the wet weather is making me loathe to venture very far away from my office, here's a few happy hour spots in Hollywood that were recommended by reader Klodi B. (Okay, and one in Highland Park, but whatevs.) Anyway, she emailed me with her animal-themed picks. I like emails. I like 'em a whole lot, especially when they are all about cheap booze. Or animals. I'm not picky! So make me happy, won't you? Send your secret spots and recommendations my way at carrie@laist.com. more ›

Morrissey @ The Palladium, 10/1/07

"The Moz shuts down the Palladium!" Well yes in a way he did and has, at least last night and tomorrow night, until resuming his 10-night (now apparently 8-night) residency at the Palladium. However Monday night's opening night show did happen and Morrissey proved why he is so beloved and adored. If you can get yourself to the Palladium in the two weeks or so, please do yourself a favor and attend one of... more ›

Van Halen Tickets Go On Sale Today at 10am

Eddie Van Halen still sorta is the greatest guitarist alive. And maybe you don't like your rock gods to be a little looney and close to death, but we do. And if we learned one thing about David Lee Roth it's that he aint no morning man, which is fine. What he is is the only front man that Van Halen should have ever had, and we're glad that all the nonsense was able... more ›

This Week in the World of -Ist

Seattlest watches as a S.L.U.T. is born and Seattle Flickr users go nuts over a local art installation. A restaurant critic demands a Diner's Bill of Rights over a gnat next to her drink, and, in lieu of a Portlandist, Seattlest debates with itself over the identity of the Northwest's crown jewel. Seattlest also joins the guys from Fantagraphics for an ill-fated gun party in the woods. more ›
