A failed bandit is now behind bars after attempting to rob a Moreno Valley pawn shop on Friday. Instead of complying with the thief's orders, a shop employee and its guard dog took the matter into their own hands and teeth.

School Board Member Charged With Pimping, Rape, Attempted Murder
There are many qualities you might want in someone looking after the welfare of schoolchildren. A propensity for violence and pimping is probably not among them. KTLA reports that Moreno Valley school board member Mike Luis Rios, 42, was arrested on Wednesday for trying to get at least six females -- four adults and two underage girls -- to become prostitutes and work for him.

7th Suspect in Gang Rape of 11-Year-Old Moreno Valley Girl May Have Fled to L.A.
Authorities are looking for 19-year-old Michael Sykes, the seventh suspect in a Moreno Valley gang rape attack on an 11-year-old, according to the Press-Enterprise. Investigators believe at least seven people raped the girl in the restroom of Victoriano Park on March 10th. Six suspects have already been arrested in conjunction with the case.
Man May Have Molested 3 Girls at In-Home Day Care Center
A Moreno Valley man has been arrested on charges he sexually molested three little girls at the day care center his wife operates from their home, reports KTLA. 61-year-old Ruben Avalos was "booked for investigation of sex with a child, forced oral copulation and lewd acts upon a child." All the victims are under the age of 14; investigators were led to Avalos after one victim was treated at a local hospital. Avalos sometimes "helps out" at his wife's in-home day care center. The couple have been together 13 years, and the center licensed since November 2006.
Recession Blues: Fresh & Easy to Temporarily Close 13 Stores
Before you freak out, the stores are not in the immediate Los Angeles area. Just as El Segundo-based Fresh & Easy's parent company Tesco announced a 15% profit for the first half of 2010, it also said it would be doing some belt tightening in the American Southwest. 13 underperforming stores will be closed, mostly in the Phoenix and Las Vegas metros. One in Southern California, the Moreno Valley one, will also shutter, according to the blog Fresh & Easy Buzz. The stores could re-open in a couple years if the economy recovers.
Police in Moreno Valley Closer to Finding Norma Lopez's Killer
Sheriff's deputies served a search warrant on a home on the 26500 block of Pegasus Way which is occupied by a family of three, including "a father, a mother and their 24-year-old son."
As part of the search, authorities seized "a green Mitsubishi SUV," which may be the vehicle witnesses reported as the green SUV they saw near the area where Lopez was abducted as she walked home from her summer school classes at Moreno Valley High School in July.

Winds Pick Up, Red Flag Extended, Fires Under Control
As Santa Ana Winds began to warm and increase in speed today, the National Weather Service extended their Red Flag Warning for an additional day to 11:00 p.m. Saturday night, prompting the the LA Fire Department to extend their own red flag parking restrictions through 8:00 a.m. on Thursday morning (but that can change in a moment's notice). A couple fires with potential to spread into larger incidents were knocked down north of Chatsworth and in Moreno Valley. The Foxborough Fire in the Fontana/Rancho Cucamonga area is 60 percent contained and was started by fireworks.
