Around 34,000 Without Power in L.A. and Surrounding Region

Beyond the 11,000 or so affected LADWP customers in the city of Los Angeles, Southern California Edison is reporting that close to 23,000 of their customers are without power. The hardest hit area was Whittier with 2,366 outages, followed by Carson and Long Beach with 1,709 and 1,292 outages, respectively. Another round of American Recovery and Investment Act of grants awards were announced today with a handful of Southern California cities on the list, the White House announced this morning. Included is $69,776 for the Metro Blue Line traction power substation, $500,000 for the Orange County Transportation Authority to purchase three alternative fuel buses as replacements for the City of Laguna Beach and a whopping $4.7 million to Metrolink to fund track rehabilitation, Positive Train Control, some facilities and insurance. more ›

When the Gold Line Eastside extension opens this summer whisking commuters from downtown to East LA, that won't be the end of the line if Metro gets their way. Metro staff has four light rail routes they are studying and proposing that would go from unincorporated East LA to the possibility of other cities such as Monterey Park, Whittier, Montebello, El Monte and others. more ›
