How to Move A 340-Ton, Two-Story Rock From Riverside to LACMA Without A Scratch

For his latest exhibit at LACMA, artist Michael Heizer is practically moving mountains. Preparations have been underway for years to help Heizer move a massive 340-ton, two-story rock from a quarry outside Riverside to LACMA where it will be suspended above the heads of visitors, as if floating. The piece is called "Levitated Mass" and LACMA says that it's one of the biggest pieces of earth moved since ancient times. more ›

Day 2 of the out-of-state Monolith Music Festival at Red Rocks this past weekend consisted of American Bang, Tokyo Police Club, The Avett Brothers, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Band of Horses, TVOTR, and Airborne Toxic Event who got their album torn apart on Pitchfork but rebutted. Weekend Getaway: Monolith Festival, Day 1

The out-of-state Monolith Music Festival at Red Rocks was this past weekend (did you go?) and this year's lineup of Band of Horses, The Avett Brothers, Mickey Avalon, TV on the Radio, American Bang, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, among many others did not disappoint. Set up on five stages over two days at arguably the most scenic venue ever, Monolith brought indie-rock fanatics a mile-high in the air to celebrate all things music.
