TV Junkie: Weekend Edition

TV Junkie: Weekend Edition

Torchwood is a guilty pleasure and its new season starts tonight on the BBCA. If you've ever been in a foreign land and seen a slightly dated American TV program come on and felt that queasy embarrassment then you know what watching Torchwood is like. It's cheesy and over-the-top science fiction with British accents and the odd dashing American thrown in. Everyone is hyper-sexed and they don't seem to discriminate between whichever sex they are attracted to at a particular moment and despite all the sexiness and the fact that it's a Euro import, I'm always a little dismayed at the lack of skin and even more dismayed at some of the gay-'80s hairdos. Still, it's well shot, good for a few laughs, and the way things are going with US licensing of UK shows, you'll be seeing it on one of the big four before you know it. more ›

Miss Kansas Worships the Devil

Miss Kansas Worships the Devil

Their crowns glitter even brighter than their teeth, but are America's beauty queens hiding a deep, dark secret? Coiffed and coutured, they are the picture of fresh-faced, feminine perfection, but LAist is blowing the lid off the seemingly wholesome beauty pageant industry to expose the tarnish on the tiara!!!

A disgusted beauty pageant insider revealed exclusively to this shocked and horrified reporter that comely Miss Kansas, Michelle Walthers, may be a card-carrying Satanist. Walthers, who recently competed for the Miss America crown, can be clearly seen in the picture above making the notorious devil horns, the mark of devil worshippers and heavy metal fans alike.

Pictures don't lie. Is Walthers a free agent, or does she belong to a secret cabal of Satanic minions sent to infiltrate our most cherished institutions? How many others are there? What are they doing to our children? And how much foundation does it take to cover those devil horns? more ›

A Word or 51: I thought I was watching my TiVoed Golden Globes broadcast last night but it turned out to be the Screen Actors Guild Awards with the same winners almost across the board. If the Oscars follow suit can't we just get rid of this circle jerk and have one stinkin' awards show? Tonight - Monday - January 29, 2007 UCLA @ Stanford (PRIME, 5:00 p.m.) College basketball Carnival Marathon featuring The... more ›

LAist Interview with Mike Gange of Howard TV

LAist loves the Howard Stern Show. We're Sirius subscribers, we have been known to defend his good name, we listened while he was #1 in LA, we're rooting him on as Sirius approaches 7 million subscribers, we even stood in line in Pasadena to get "Miss America" signed.
