A judge had some harsh words for Erik Alvarez, a former Long Beach police detective who was sentenced today for having sex with an underage female relative, reports the Long Beach Press-Telegram. A San Bernardino County Deputy Sheriff who is accused of having sex with a 16-year-old girl will appear in a San Bernadino court tomorrow, according to a statement released by the girl's lawyer, superstar attorney Gloria Allred. Nathan Gastineau, 30, is accused of lewd acts and unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. The girl, who was 16 at the time, was part of the Explorers program, which was designed to introduce young people to careers in law enforcement. more ›

Two San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies have been charged with a variety of sexual crimes involving teenage participants of the ride-along "Explorer" program. On Friday, the San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office filed charges on against 31-year-old Nathan Gastineau, a former deputy accused of having sex with a 16-year-old girl. He was charged with three counts of lewd acts upon a child and three counts of unlawful sexual intercourse, according to KTLA. more ›

Dance teacher, TV judge and choreographer Melvin Shane Sparks was arrested this morning at his North Hollywood home as part of an ongoing child molestation investigation in which he is suspected of engaging in a handful of sexual acts with minors. Specifically, files were charged alleging lewd conduct with a child under 14, two counts of sexual intercourse with a minor and two counts of oral copulation with a minor. more ›

A minor 3.2 quake struck near Los Angeles International Airport at 9:14 p.m., but caused no reported damage as of a half hour later, according to the LA Times. The earthquake was also located in the same general area of a few quakes that struck in May. A 4.7 rattler struck on May 17 followed by a 4.1 on May 19. These little quakes are always a good reminder to get prepared: store water, take CERT and take other measures (.pdf) to help make one of the potentially worst days of your life--when the big one strikes--a little better. more ›
