LAst Night's Action: Wolves Maul the Clips, Kings Tame the Wild, UCLA's Blunts

Minnesota Timberwolves defeat LA Clippers 109-97. This was a close game through three quarters with the Clippers leading most of the way. Then Minnesota exploded all over the court in the fourth quarter 36-21, and that was that. So Blake Griffin had 30 points, DeAndre Jordan 14 points and 14 rebounds. more ›

Kings Explode for Terry Murray's 1,000th NHL Game as Head Coach

Kings Explode for Terry Murray's 1,000th NHL Game as Head Coach

The Kings’ game against the Minnesota Wild didn’t look anything like how I thought it would look. The fact is this was a showdown between two of the most boring offenses in the NHL, a sort of SEC matchup if you will. And judging by the Kings recent performances, things didn’t look good. more ›

Simmonds, Kings Tame Wild 4-2

Simmonds, Kings Tame Wild 4-2

It had been nearly a month, since Jan. 26 to be precise, since the Kings have played at STAPLES Center. And while things were not so hot during that long January home stand, the team finally figured things out on the road going 6-1-3 getting 15 out of a possible 20 points to reestablish themselves into the playoff race. The Kings continued that trend in their first game home with a 4-2 win over the Minnesota Wild. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Squeak by Rockets

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Squeak by Rockets

The Houston Rockets are at best an inconsistent team that is struggling to get into the playoff race. The Lakers are a team that have lost two straight at STAPLES Center. So of course even an extraordinary night by Lamar Odom for the Lakers couldn't stave off the Rockets in regulation. Odom in the starting lineup with Andrew Bynum sitting out, started the game shooting 3-for-11. However in the second half he upped his game and ended up with his second career 20-20 night with exactly 20 points and 20 rebounds. Kobe Bryant also had a double-double with 32 points and 11 assists. more ›

Kings Blunder Through Wild Overtime Loss

Kings Blunder Through Wild Overtime Loss

Kings goalie Jonathan Quick two giveaways aided by some very questionable calls from the referees could have spelled doom. Somehow the Kings managed to salvage a point by getting the game to overtime where they lost 3-2 against the Minnesota Wild on Brent Burns’ power-play goal. “You spot a team two goals, it’s tough to get two points out of it,” Quick said. But he wasn’t happy with the outcome. “It’s extremely unfortunate. We outplayed them for the majority of that game.” more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Just Clownin' Around in DE-troit

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Just Clownin' Around in DE-troit

LA Lakers defeat Detroit Pistons 103-90. Turbulence thanks to the rain and wind and a hard landing that had even radio broadcaster Mychal Thompson a bit shaken couldn’t stop the Lakers. Thanks to the steady hands of Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol, the fears of a back-to-back on the road were dispelled as the Lakers cruised to victory in The Palace of Auburn Hills. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Stung By Hornets Point Guards

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Stung By Hornets Point Guards

New Orleans Hornets defeat LA Lakers 108-100. Well the Lakers interrupted one hell of a high speed chase for this nonsense. It was too much Chris Paul and Darren Collison that once again exposed the Lakers inability to defend quick point guards. Meanwhile on the offensive end instead of trying to dictate play by attacking the paint, they settled for shooting threes ineffectively at a 24% clip. Pau Gasol in no way can be blamed for the loss tying a career high in rebounds with 22 while scoring 26 points. Kobe Bryant led all scorers with 31 points. But like I said it was too much Paul (15 points, 13 assists) and Collison (17 points). This should be an infuriating loss, but the more the Lakers play indifferently the more I feel indifferent about them. If they feel content about being 2-2 on this road trip, so be it. more ›

LAst Night's Action: No D for Lakers Victory Over Warriors

LAst Night's Action: No D for Lakers Victory Over Warriors

LA Lakers defeat Golden State Warriors 124-118. Yet again the Lakers defense was helpless against an uptempo offense, however thanks to another superhuman effort by Kobe Bryant with 44 points and a season high 11 assists the Lakers offense saved the day. The Warriors held the edge on fast break points at 30-9 while the Lakers barely outscored the Warriors in the paint 46-44. While this game goes in the win column, these last four games have been nothing to write home about. Not to sound the alarm or anything. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Suns Blaze Lakers

LAst Night's Action: Suns Blaze Lakers

Phoenix Suns defeat LA Lakers 118-103. Bad defense and bad shooting lost the game for the Lakers. While the Lakers overpowered the Suns in both games at the Staples Center earlier this season, the Suns defended the paint giving the Lakers’ bigs problems all night. The Suns torched the Lakers in the second half leading by as much as 22 points. While Kobe Bryant led all scorers with 34 points, Amare Stoudemire led the Suns with 26 points and six boards. The bench war was won by the Suns outscoring the Lakers’ subs 52-31. While this is the Lakers third straight mediocre game, it’s still a bit too early to panic and throw foam fingers onto the hardwood. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Kings Whoop Sharks, Ducks Can't Hold Wild

LAst Night's Action: Kings Whoop Sharks, Ducks Can't Hold Wild

LA Kings defeat San Jose Sharks 6-4. The Kings exploded on the reigning President's Cup winner San Jose Sharks jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the second period. But then the penalties mounted and the Sharks took advantage scoring four powerplay goals. However 26 seconds after the Shark's Dany Heatley scored that last powerplay goal, Teddy Purcell found the puck after a faceoff and beat goalie Thomas Greiss. Davis Drewskie capped off the scoring with 1:19 remaining on an empty-net goal, the first goal of his NHL career. Center Anze Kopitar scored the fourth goal for the Kings in the second period and notched two assists. It wasn't a pretty game and the Kings need to really work on their penalty kill. But two points is two points for their first win of the NHL season after an embarrassing loss to the Phoenix Coyote on Saturday. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Drown Thunder

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Drown Thunder

LA Lakers defeat Oklahoma City Thunder 107-93. The Thunder tried making a comeback in the fourth quarter, but it took Kobe Bryant only three minutes to score 10 points to squash that hope. With the 36 points he scored, Bryant eclipsed Adrian Dantley for 19th all time scorer. The Lakers continue to have the best record in the NBA at 47-10 and the best road record at 21-6. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Cold in Toronto

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Cold in Toronto

LA Lakers defeat Toronto Raptors 115-107. It took three quarters but the Lakers defense finally thawed out and showed up to get the stops against the Raptors. Kobe Bryant scored 36 points far less than the 61 he scored Monday night in Madison Square Garden. Pau Gasol showed his consistency playing center with a 31 point, 15 rebound effort after his 31-14 game Monday night. A little alarming is the fact that Gasol played all but 3:30 of the game while Kobe played for 37:33. With the game tonight against the Boston Celtics, hopefully they don't have a lethargic performance. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Kings Blow Out Wild

LAst Night's Action: Kings Blow Out Wild

LA Kings defeat Minnesota Wild 5-2. Not only did the Kings have the lead going into the third period, they held the Wild scoreless in that period. The Kings penalty kill was suspect giving the Wild's two scores on four power play opportunities. But overall the Kings limited the Wild's shots holding them to 14 after two periods. And having been outscored 15-4 on their recent losing streak, it was a good sign when the Kings came out to score first on a Kyle Calder wrist shot. more ›

Kings Dump a Couple Players, Snag a Couple Points

Kings Dump a Couple Players, Snag a Couple Points

With the undefeated Minnesota Wild coming in hot to Staples last night, everything looked primed for the Kings to party like it was 1987 by tying that season's horrendous opening record. To make that party even more likely, the Kings activated career-backup J.S. Aubin from the injured reserve and threw his ass in goal in place of shell-shocked Jonathon Bernier. Hung out to dry nightly via awful defensive protection, Bernier was sent down to his junior squad to protect his development and confidence. Also sent packing was son-of-the-ex-coach Brady Murray, another youngster in need of more ice-time outside the NHL. more ›
