LA Lakers defeat Minnesota Timberwolves 104-96. Against the team that lost to the Phoenix Suns 152-114 Tuesday night, the Lakers just cruised throughout the game content to let them hang around. They even let the Wolves take a lead in the third quarter. But in the end the Lakers were just too much. Kobe Bryant ended up with a season high 13 assists, seven in the first quarter, along with 22 points. Pau Gasol also had a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds. In reference to their suspension for Friday night’s game, Clippers play-by-play announcer Ralph Lawler after describing Timberwolves backup forward Nathan Jawai’s play told his partner Mike Smith, “And I’m not going to ask where Jawai is from.” The Clippers started out lackadaisical while the Wolves were shooting over 50% to start off the game. But as the game went on, that shooting percentage went down while the Clippers found the energy thanks to Al Thornton who had a monster game with 31 points on 11-for-16 shooting with 10 rebounds. Baron Davis did not have a single point in the game going into the final seconds. In the final minute with only a 89-87 lead Baron drove to the hoop for a layup with 8.5 seconds left in the game, his first score being perhaps the most crucial. LAst Night's Action: Lakers Awaken and Beat Kings

LA Lakers defeat Sacramento Kings 122-104. I worried about this game a couple of weeks ago, and after falling behind 12 points in the first quarter it seemed justified. But the Lakers hung up 40 in the second quarter while only allowing the Kings to score 18, and they were on their way to a rout. Pau Gasol led the Lakers with 26 points and 12 rebounds while Kobe Bryant scored 22 points. Remember at the beginning of the decade when all that could heard at Arco Arena were cowbells and chants of "Beat LA"? Now they've been replaced with MVP chants to Kobe Bryant. So sad. The Lakers are now half a game behind Cleveland for the best overall record in the NBA. more ›
