Tonight In Rock: Ray LaMontagne, The Misfits, Eisley, War Tapes

Tonight legendary New Jersey-based horror punk progenitors the Misfits (LAist Review) will be headlining the Key Club. Eisley, a familial, Texan indie rock quintet, are poised to grace the Troubadour with none other than Miniature Tigers (LAist Interview, Review). And, lastly, local rockers War Tapes will be taking on the Smell in Downtown. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Orpheum Theatre in Downtown to catch the conclusion of Maine-bred folk singer-songwriter Ray LaMontagne's three-night stint. LAist favorite, Rock Island-based alternative country singer-songwriter Lissie is slated to kick things off.

Tonight In Rock: Japanese Motors, Miniature Tigers, 60-Watt Kid, Pase Rock

Tonight Costa Mesa-based rockers Japanese Motors are poised to commence a month-long residency at the Echo with My Pet Saddle in tow. Local experimental rock trio 60-Watt Kid will be performing at Women. And, lastly, Ohioan DJ Pase Rock will be headlining the Roxy in Hollywood. But we strongly suggest heading over to Spaceland to catch LAist favorites Miniature Tigers (LAist Interview, Review).

Tonight In Rock: Kevine Devine, Bobb Bruno, Jason Heath & The Greedy Souls, Mega Wand

Tonight local experimental multi-instrumentalist Bobb Bruno will be performing at Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock. Early on in the evening, LA-based alt-country troubadours Jason Heath & the Greedy Souls are poised to grace the Echo for this week's edition of Grand Ole Echo. And, lastly, local experimental electronic duo Mega Wand will be playing at the Knitting Factory's AlterKnit Lounge. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Troubadour to catch Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Kevin Devine. LAist favorites Miniature Tigers (LAist Interview, Review) are slated to kick things off.

Miniature Tigers Take LA! Don't Be Afraid. Meet The Lead Singer, Charlie Brand

If you were on an adventure with Indiana Jones, and were in desperate need of a sunny, happy pop album that discusses the dangers of cannibals, dinosaurs, octopi, and volcanoes, the Miniature Tigers' new album might be the one to choose. (Obviously this would be in your down time. It's not the soundtrack you would want for when you were fighting Nazis or sneaking around in tombs.) However, Tell It To The Volcano which was released on Modern Art Records in February might just do the trick for when you were having lunch or getting from one cave to another. Which is not surprising considering the founding members, Charlie Brand and Rick Schaier, cite the jungle imagery in Lost and Indiana Jones as some of their influences when writing this record. Honestly it is surprising there aren't more cannibal ditties out there considering the popularity of both of these cultural icons. Or maybe a few mysterious pop songs about "others"? Just a thought.

It's the first Monday of the month and thus we've got a bevy of new Monday Night Residencies. Local indie rockers the Western States Motel will be kicking things off at Spaceland. And WEAVE! will be embarking on their month-long residency at the Echo. Fresh off the heels of a record release party, LA-based the Monolators will grace the hole-and-corner Pehrspace. Delaware-based pop rock maestros the Spinto Band will be performing at the Echoplex with Scottish indie rockers Frightened Rabbit and one of our favorite local bands, Miniature Tigers (LAist Review). Lastly, Vancouver's own Mother Mother will be showcasing their disjointed yet entirely appealing tunes at the Silver Lake Lounge. But the lineup at the El Rey Theatre tonight is downright irresistible. Swedish songstress Lykke Li (LAist Review, #2) will be accompanied by not only SoCal mainstays the Mae Shi (LAist Interview, Review, #2) and Grand Ole Party (LAist Review, #2, #3), but also St. Albans own electro-pop act Friendly Fires (LAist Review).

If you cannot make it to hear the amazing jazz vocalist, Julia Fordham, at The Roxy tonight, opening up at Hotel Cafe tonight is Tiffany Randol, who we caught at one of <strong>Alex & Sam's Tangier shows. The front woman of NYC based glam rock band, Valeze, has now gone solo singer/songwriter style, making Los Angeles her second home, and is bringing out a new sound that is more folk-acoustic-pop than anything. The LA newbie can belt out her lyrics like a pro and her body and hips swing as if the music has seduced her in some kind of trance. Later at the Hotel Cafe, one of acoustic favs plays his last night of the Hotel Cafe residency -- stay for Brian Wright and the Waco Tragedies. ~ Z.B.

I've always been intrigued by other "best of" lists, but this year I decided to take it to a whole new level. I e-mailed a handful of bands that I've seen this past year in order to unearth what exactly captivated them in '07. As music listeners, it is our duty to take a keen interest in our favorite musician's influences. After all, they rocked our little world, might as well see what rocked their...

Tonight marks the first night of alt-rock band Acute's residency at Tangier. Every Sunday this month will be glorious thanks to frontman Isaac Lekach's wonderful taste in music. He has organized a fantastic lineup for their month long residency. Michael Runion, Taylor Goldsmith (of Simon Dawes), and Whispertown2000 will be playing tonight's show. Miniature Tigers, Ryen Slegr (of Ozma), and Soft Pipes (Ant from Low vs. Diamond) are slated for the second night, September...
