LA Dodgers defeat Milwaukee Brewers 4-3. After losing the first two games of the series by one run (in walkoff fashion no less), it was inevitable the Dodgers would win this game since the Dodgers had never been swept by the Brewers. Thanks to a Matt Kemp's power, the Dodgers could rest a bit easier as they head to Houston.
LAst Night's Action: Kemp's Blast Prevents Sweep in Milwaukee
LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Rally But Lose in Milwaukee
Milwaukee Brewers defeat LA Dodgers 5-4. The game really did look over when Andre Ethier hit the two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning to give the Dodgers the 4-3 lead. It still looked over when Dodgers' closer Javy Guerra had runners on first and second with no outs in the bottom of the ninth, that triple play on Sunday still within sight through the rear view mirror.
The National League Most Valuable Player Is...
The Baseball Writers Association of America announced the winner of the National League Most Valuable Player is Milwaukee Brewers’ leftfielder Ryan Braun. The Granada Hills native became the first MVP for the Brewers since Robin Yount won the honors in 1989.
LAst Night's Action: Angels Wait Until Last Swing To Show Life
LA Angels defeat Texas Rangers 2-1. It isn’t much, but the Angels showed signs of life. It’s like one of those scenes in those maudlin hospital dramas where the patient has flatlined after being taken off of life support. Family members are crying, doctors are mumbling amongst themselves. Then there’s a beep. The mournful tears of family members are now replaced by tears of hope. And that’s about where the Angels are.
LAst Night's Action: Angels Still Can't Break Through Against Texas
Coming into Monday’s game the Angels were four games behind the Rangers. Now having lost the first three games of the four-game series, the Angels fall to seven games back with nothing going right.
LAst Night's Action: Another Angels Pitching Let Down
Texas Rangers LA Angels 7-3. At least the Angels’ Monday night starter Garrett Richards had an excuse leaving the game early: he pulled his groin muscle. On Tuesday night, starter Tyler Chatwood couldn’t throw a strike.
LAst Night's Action: Groin Down the Drain for Rookie Garrett Richards and Angels
Texas Rangers defeat LA Angels 8-4. Dan Haren told reporters over the weekend that the Angels couldn’t afford to dig themselves a deeper hole in the race for the AL West. Coming into their four-game series against the first place Rangers down four games, there is some pressure on them especially coming off of a 2-4 road trip which culminated in an extra-innings bullpen meltdown in Toronto Sunday afternoon.
Dodgers: Kemp Sparks Offense While Kuroda Does the Rest
It was a script that the Dodgers seemed doomed to repeat: starting pitcher notches a quality start; Jamey Carroll and Aaron Miles hits singles at the top of the order; Dodgers are shutout because no one else can hit. The rain must have washed this script clean as the Dodgers finally got some timely hits in their 3-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.
Groundhog Day at Dodger Stadium
The mercury read 58 degrees to start the Dodgers’ game against the Milwaukee Brewers, weather more appropriate for early February rather than mid-May. And just like Groundhog Day the Dodger offense repeated their ineptitude in their 2-1 loss
LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Sweep Brewers
LA Dodgers defeat Milwaukee Brewers 7-1. The fear was that with Manny Ramirez sitting for a day game after a night game, the streaking Dodgers would ground to a halt. It really looked that way with the Dodgers holding the slim 2-1 lead after five innings until Casey Blake belted a two-run homer off of Brewers’ starter Yovani Gallardo (L, 11-6) in the sixth inning. The Dodgers capitalized on the Brewers generosity in the seventh inning with RBI singles by Ryan Theriot and Reed Johnson with another run scoring thanks to a wild pitch by the hard running reliever Todd Coffey. This marks the Dodgers’ first sweep since they swept the Giants on June 28-30. With Chad Billingsley’s right calf still bothering him, Carlos Monasterios made the spot start going 4 1/3 innings giving up a run on Prince Fielder’s solo blast in the fourth inning that tied the game. Thanks to the Dodgers offense Ronald Belisario (W, 2-1) got the win.
LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Crawl Into Wild Card Hunt
LA Dodgers defeat Milwaukee Brewers 5-4. The Dodgers responded to the Brewers three-run bottom of the fourth inning right away by getting three runs for themselves in the top of the fifth. While Andre Ethier hit a solo homer off of Brewers’ starter and former Dodger Randy Wolf (L, 10-10) in the third inning to start off the scoring, the story for the Dodgers was their doubles. Manny Ramirez and Ryan Theriot hit two apiece while James Loney and Casey Blake hit one each to help back Hiroki Kuorda (W, 9-11) who went seven innings giving up the four Brewers runs. Jonathan Broxton pitched a perfect eighth inning and a combination of Ronald Belisario, George Sherrill and Octavio Dotel (S, 22) pitched a perfect ninth. The Dodgers are now 3-0 with Manny Ramirez in the starting lineup and are a manageable 5 ½ games back in the wild card race.
LAst Night's Action: Angels Get the Broom Treatment in Boston
Boston Red Sox defeat LA Angels 11-6. The Angels looked like they would avoid a four-game sweep by the hands of Boston when they tagged starter Daisuke Matsuzaka for four runs in the first inning. But Angels’ starter Scott Kazmir couldn’t...
A Hollywood Ending, A Dodger Victory
“He can really get the job done, can’t he,” Dodgers starting pitcher John Ely said rhetorically of Andre Ethier through a huge grin.
With bases loaded in a 3 - 3 ball game, the last of the ninth, the Los Angeles Dodgers most clutch hitter in recent memory crushed a walk-off grand slam home run to center field off of Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher LaTroy Hawkins.
LAst Night's Action: Revenge of the Lackey
Boston Red Sox defeat LA Angels 3-1. Red Sox starter and former Angel John Lackey pitched a jewel of a game against his former team allowing only a home run by Brandon Wood in the fifth inning in his seven innings of work. Angels’ starter Joel Pineiro had a trickier time of things despite giving up only two runs in his six innings...
Different Day, Same Results for Dodgers
Things are starting to become dangerous for the Dodgers. Held without an extra-base hit for the first time this season, the Dodgers left 12 men on base and were 3-for-14 with runners in scoring position in their 11-3 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. However the story of the game for the second consecutive day was the pitching.
LAst Night's Action: Lakers Too Big for Utah
LA Lakers defeat Utah Jazz 111-103. While the Jazz got to within four points of the Lakers in the fourth quarter, the Lakers did not break in their win over the Jazz. The Lakers used their height advantage throughout out the game with Pau Gasol scoring 22 points with 15 rebounds and Andrew Bynum adding 17 points and 14 rebounds. Kobe Bryant scored 30 points while dishing the ball eight times. And was the Lamar Odom that we all saw with 11 points and 15 rebounds? It was nothing cute, nothing fancy. Just a dominating win. The Lakers now head up to Utah to see if they can pull off a sweep.
Dodgers Pummeled By Brewers
On fleece blanket giveaway night at Dodger Stadium, there was nothing warm about the Milwaukee Brewers’ reception to Dodger pitching. Having only scored two runs in their four-game series in San Diego while being shut out three times, the Brewers battered Dodger starter Clayton Kershaw to the tune of seven runs in their 11-6 pounding of the Dodgers.
Dodgers Thrown for a Looper
With all the anticipation from Tuesday night’s theatrics on the minds of the 50,276 fans at the Stadium, all they got was a lousy baseball game.
“That’s what I expected,” Torre said of the lack of drama. “I was hoping the result would be different, but as far as any repercussions from last night I didn’t expect anything.”
The result was a 4-1 loss at the hands of the Milwaukee Brewers. After an initial hiccup to start the game, Brewers starter Braden Looper confounded Dodger bats.
The Bean Ball Incident, Day After
While watching an ESPNews segment in the clubhouse about Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder’s attempt to have a meet-and-greet in the Dodger’s clubhouse, Dodgers reliever Guillermo Mota laughed.
Prince Fielder's Trek
After thinking about the events that transpired just after the final out was recorded in the Dodgers 17-4 rout of the Milwaukee Brewers, it amazed me how Prince Fielder and his teammates were able to get to the Dodger clubhouse doors.
Dodgers Blow Out Milwaukee, Fielder Blows Up
After scuffling for more than a week, the Dodgers needed a game like this. Having forgone batting practice they proceeded to crush the Milwaukee Brewers 17-4 despite getting only seven more hits. The 17 runs would mark the most runs the Dodgers have scored at home since May 25, 1979 when they scored 17 against the Cincinnati Reds.
Dodgers-Brewers LiveBlog: First Weekday Edition
To say this is scary times for Dodger fans is an understatement. Although the Dodgers maintain the best record in the Majors at 65-41 they have lost seven of their last 11 games and have seen their lead in the NL West shrink from nine games to 6 1/2 games. Fans are starting to hyperventilate.
LAst Night's Action: Dodger Come Back Falls a Little Short
Milwaukee Brewers defeat LA Dodgers 6-5. Coming off of some rather remarkable starts, Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw lost his form. Actually he got through the first three innings without giving up a hit, but in the fourth inning he walked in two runs with the bases loaded to give the Dodgers the lead for good. In the sixth inning with Jeff Weaver pitching Brewers leftfielder Ryan Braun put the game away with an Earl Weaver shot to left center. Brewers starter Manny Parra pitched his longest outing of the season - eight innings - giving up two runs on six hits and a walk. But the ninth inning came and he gave up a single and double to Casey Blake and Matt Kemp. Longtime Dodger foil Trevor Hoffman came in to save the game but promptly gave up a double to James Loney to score Blake and Kemp. Orlando Hudson would single to right sending Loney home. The Dodgers would load the bases with Manny Ramirez at bat. Manny flew to right ending the game and the come back.
LAst Night's Action: Thriller at Staples
LA Lakers defeat Utah Jazz 111-104. Kobe Bryant, sore back and all, and the Lakers held off the Jazz to win game five of the series. The fourth quarter started with an 81-81 tie and something happened that didn't happen in overtime in game four: Kobe Bryant attempted no shots. Instead he relied on his other four teammates to make the open shots. The best one came 21 seconds left in the game with the Lakers leading 105-102. Sasha Vujacic missed a three pointer and Pau Gasol came up with the offensive rebound and smashes it into the bucket. The Lakers lead the series 3-2 and will play Friday night at Utah.
LAst Night's Action: Gagne Saves
Milwaukee Brewers defeat LA Dodgers 5-3. The Dodgers have worse skid marks than one of my exes. With a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning, Dodger's starter Brad Penny gave up a two-run double to last season's NL Rookie of the Year and local boy Ryan Braun. Closer Eric Gagne came in the ninth inning for the save and gave up a single and a walk. Juan Pierre, representing the tying run, pops out to end the game. The Dodgers have now lost five games and just don't look the same with Rafael Furcal on the DL.
Is Bud Selig a Racist or does he Just Hate Baseball?
So Barry Bonds hit his big dinger last night, and we hate him for it. But we're allowed to, we live in LA. The Commissioner of Baseball, however, is not allowed to hate Barry Bonds. At least not publicly. Why? Because the Commish is supposed to be fair and without allegiance. All he is supposed to care about is Baseball's Best Interest. But clearly Bud Selig only has one interest: money. The former used...
I Feel Fine
Which team has the best record in the National League? Two teams share this distinction: the Milwaukee Brewers and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
¿Kuo Qué?
On a day of magnificent feats when Detroit Tiger’s 24-year old pitcher Justin Verlander pitched a no-hitter against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Dodgers managed to top that. They exploded with three consecutive homers on three consecutive pitches against the New York Mets in the second inning. Don’t get me wrong. Verlander’s no-no was absolutely amazing. In the ninth inning, he was still pitching strikes at 102 mph. And given the blustery conditions at Comerica...
Can I Take Potpourri for $400 Alex?
With the Dodgers playing a rather boring series at the Washington Nationals, it’s time to take care of some housecleaning. All Star Voting Yesterday, Major League Baseball released the preliminary results of the first period of fan voting for the All Star Game. The fan votes will determine which position players start the game. According to the results, My Boyfriend is running a distant fourth to the fiery whoring gambler Paul Lo Duca (former...
