Largo at the Coronet has hosted many benefits over the years, and the one this Saturday will feature Largo's first-ever evening of duets, with the proceeds going to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Largo owner Mark Flanagan told LAist that the evening will include a number of duets that Fiona Apple and Jon Brion have been working on, in addition to pairings featuring artists such as John C. Reilly, Tom Brosseau, Mike Viola and a surprise guest or two.

Tonight In Rock: Laura Veirs, Foreign Born, Avi Buffalo, Spirit Vine

Tonight Long Beach/Los Alamitos natives Avi Buffalo (LAist Interview, Review) will be performing at the Airliner in Lincoln Heights. (Canceled!) LAist favorites Foreign Born (LAist Review) will be gracing the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa with none other than English rockers the Veils. And, lastly, New Zealand-based rock outfit the Datsuns will be taking on Spaceland with locals Spirit Vine in tow. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Hotel Café to catch Portland-based songstress Laura Veirs. LAist favorites Mike Viola (LAist Interview) and Luluc will be performing as well.

Interview: Mandy Moore Living, Breathing, and Tweeting Music

On April 10, Mandy Moore turned 25. With a new album, a tour, volunteer work, and upcoming film projects, she really knows how to keep busy. If you want to try to keep up with Mandy, you can follow her on Twitter, check out her blog, and see her play at Largo. LAist talked to Mandy last month as she was putting the finishing touches in her new album Amanda Leigh. She was home recovering from having wisdom teeth removed, gushed on and on about her collaborator Mike Viola, and didn't let on even a hint that she and Ryan Adams were about to tie the knot. We asked Mandy about her new album Amanda Leigh, her long list of collaborators, and what she has planned for her show at Largo on April 25.

Tonight In Rock: Leonard Cohen, Gary Louris, The Happy Hollows, Anglos

Tonight Canadian poet, novelist and singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen will be concluding a two-date stint at Club Nokia in Downtown. LAist favorites the Happy Hollows are poised to headline the Regent Theatre with a slew of like-minded Los Angelenos, including Devon Williams, Rainbow^Arabia and Blank Blue, to benefit local radio station KXLU. Local indie rockers Anglos will be ringing in their debut EP at El Cid with Go West Young Man. But we strongly suggest heading over to Largo at the Coronet. Not only will recently-reunited Jayhawks' front men Mark Olson and Gary Louris be gracing the main room with Teddy Thompson, but Boston-based ex-Candy Butcher front man Mike Viola will be playing in the Little Room.

Interview: John Wesley Harding Brings his New Album and Variety Show to Largo this Saturday

John Wesley Harding loves a sense of occasion, highly theatrical imagery, and collaboration. He is a busy songwriter, novelist, and new dad. His latest album Who Was Changed and Who Was Dead came out in March. Recently Wes completed his third novel. He is the father of two small children. Since his critically acclaimed 1990 debut, Here Comes the Groom (lauded by the LA Times as “the first great rock record of the `90s”) John Wesley Harding has recorded ten records for both major (Sire, Hollywood) and independent labels.

Tonight In Rock: Dan Auerbach, The Bird and the Bee, Asobi Seksu, Nico Vega

Tonight the Black Keys' front man Dan Auerbach will be headlining the El Rey Theatre. LA-based indie pop outfit the Bird and the Bee are poised to play the Tricot Showroom. New York's own shoegaze queen Asobi Seksu will be gracing the Troubadour. And, lastly, local indie rock trio Nico Vega are slated to open for the Von Bondies at the Roxy. But we strongly suggest heading over to Largo at the Coronet. Not only will Rickie Lee Jones be rocking the main stage (with a very, very special guest we're told), but Boston-based ex-Candy Butcher front man Mike Viola will be playing in the Little Room.

Mike Viola Makes Pop Music Cool Again

After a childhood in Boston and living most of his adult life in NY, Mike Viola has arrived...in LA. We met Mike at a screening of "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story" and had the opportunity not only to watch the film but hear about how Mike and the team of songwriters created a catalog of songs for a fictional music star.

Last Friday, Denver-based Jessica Sonner (MySpace), as well as locals Holly Conlan (MySpace), Mandy Moore (MySpace), and Terra Naomi (MySpace) performed at the Hotel Cafe in Hollywood. Following the female quartet of singer-songwriters were Pedestrian (MySpace) and Andy Clockwise (MySpace).
