LAst Night's Action: Angels Swept By Lowly Orioles

LAst Night's Action: Angels Swept By Lowly Orioles

Baltimore Orioles defeat LA Angels 5-4. For the first time since 2003 the Angels were swept by the Baltimore Orioles. Angels’ starter Dan Haren was pitching a shutout until the sixth inning when he gave up a leadoff homer to Nick Markakis. The Orioles would score once more in the sixth on Felix Pie’s single and twice in the seventh. The Angels woke up in the eighth to tie the game at 4-4, but Cesar Izturis walked off with a single that brought in Julio Lugo for the winning run. The Angels will tuck their tails between their legs and head off to Detroit for a three-game series. more ›

Clippers Fire General Manager Mike Dunleavy

Clippers Fire General Manager Mike Dunleavy

After Mike Dunleavy stepped down as Clippers head coach to concentrate on his general managing duties, a lot of people placed bets on the number of days before the Clippers gave him the ax. If you said 33 days, then you are correct. In a statement released by the Clippers this afternoon: "The organization has determined that the goal of building a winning team is best served by making this decision at this time. The team has simply not made sufficient progress during Dunleavy’s seven-year tenure..." more ›

LAst Night's Action: Kings Win Battle of SoCal

LAst Night's Action: Kings Win Battle of SoCal

LA Kings defeat Anaheim Ducks 6-4. After the Kings took a strangle hold of the game leading 4-1 early in the third period, the Ducks proved they still have some fight in them. The Ducks scored three goals in less than 6 ½ minutes to tie the game before the halfway point of the third. But the Kings would regain their composure retaking control of the puck. Dustin Brown hit a wrist shot to give the Kings a 5-4 lead, and Anze Kopitar cemented the win with a power play goal in the waning seconds of the game. Kopitar was everywhere in the game scoring four points with two goals. The Kings have now won eight games in a row tying a franchise record. They last achieved this feat from 2/23/92 to 3/9/92 and previously from 10/21/72 to 11/7/72. The Kings will look to break the record against the Detroit Red Wings at Staples Center Saturday afternoon. The Kings also elevate to fourth place in the Western Conference with 73 points. And to top it off, the Kings have won all three meetings against the Ducks this season with one more left in Anaheim on Monday. more ›

Isiah Thomas to Clippers' Front Office?

LAst Night's Action: New York Loses, Fans Couldn't Care Less

Clippers 103, Knicks 94 - Los Angeles won on the road for the first time in nine games, beating up on one of the only NBA teams that may be worse than the Clips. Two key players, Correy Maggette (19 points) and Chris Kaman (15 points), returned for the first time in several games. Coach Mike Dunleavy, however, was sick and stayed in the team hotel. He did have enough energy to issue an apology for bashing the Knicks in a statement earlier in the week. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Sting Hornets

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Sting Hornets

Lakers 109, Hornets 80 - Two of the hottest teams in the NBA met in New Orleans, but only one of them lived up to the billing. Los Angeles thumped the Hornets despite playing on back-to-back nights and New Orleans having several days of rest. Maybe they just got cold. The Lakers bench was key, outscoring the Hornet's reserves by 42-9. It was like the reverse of a USC game. more ›

A Place to Call Home

A Place to Call Home

The Clippers finally broke ground on their long overdue practice facility on Thursday afternoon, a 42,500 square foot facility at Playa Vista. The facility is scheduled to be completed early next year, outfitted with the same quality of equipment as you’d find at Sports Club LA (minus all of the beautiful, surgically enhanced clientele). With $25 million invested into the project, now Elton Brand, Cat Mobley, et al will finally have a legitimate place to... more ›

The CW (Clipper Weekly): March Madness

Current Record: 29-33, 3rd Pacific, 8th West Last Week: Let’s see, the Clippers lost all three games they played by an average of 14 points. But with the madness going on in the NBA this season, the Clippers continue to hold on to the last playoff spot in the West, despite their best efforts to mail it in. They even inched closer to the sixth spot by losing one less game than the Lakers last... more ›

LAst Night's Action: Barn. Burnt.

LAst Night's Action: Barn. Burnt.

Bruins 70, Trojans 65 - For the second time this season, LAist correctly predicted a barn burner. UCLA didn't have a lead until the final six minutes, when USC's foul trouble unraveled an impressive game from the matchup's traditional underdog. The Bruins went 23-31 at the line, compared to a mere 3-5 for the Trojans. USC kept it close until the final seven seconds, hitting a string of deep shots to pull within three. A... more ›

LAst Night's Action: "I'd Kick David Beckham's Ass"

LAst Night's Action: "I'd Kick David Beckham's Ass"

Lakers 124, Heat 118, OT - Unlike the Golden Globe acceptance speeches, nobody was upset when this went a little long. Boasting a budding rivalry that didn't even need Shaq or Pat Riley, the Lakers survived the Heat in a game featuring plenty of lead changes and ties. Dwayne Wade had a game high 35, but it wasn't enough against a Lakers squad that spread the ball around (seven players scored in double digits). The team shot 14-for-25 from beyond the arc with five from Smush Parker and four from Brian Cook. Miami was just 9-for-26 from deep. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Ford Retires to the 19th Hole

Jazz 102, Clippers 92 - Something about Utah just doesn't sit well with the Clippers. They fell to 1-30 in games at EnergySolutions Arena (yes, it's really called that), and have lost 7 of their last 8 overall. Mike Dunleavy was T-eed up, but if he's fined we're sure he can afford it. The Clippers were on the road the last three games, and will close out the calendar year with three at home against... more ›

LAst Night's Action: Ducks Keep Winning

Ducks 2, Thrashers 1 - Anaheim continues to look like the best team in hockey after winning their tenth game in the past eleven. Teemu Selanne tallied both goals, the second just a minute after Atlanta evened the score in the third period. Mavericks 110, Lakers 101 - The Lakers lost in Dallas, falling half a game out of first place in the Pacific Division. Kobe Bryant had a game high 33, but Los... more ›

The Glass is Two-Eighths Empty

Clippers Ray of Hope

LAist thinks this flirtation with Allen might actually become a real relationship. Allen and the Sonics worked on a contract extension all last season, and in public, it looked ugly. Considering Seattle refuses to give Allen a max contract, the He Got Game star has reason to look elsewhere. more ›
