When Swedish/American trio Miike Snow rolled into town late last week for their Club Nokia and Wiltern gigs, they brought with them Mark Ronson & The Business International, who were out in support of their recently released Record Collection (featuring Q-Tip, MNDR, Miike Snow's Andrew Wyatt, Boy George, and others).

Tonight In Rock: Miike Snow, The Like, Madi Diaz, The Physics Of Meaning
Tonight Swedish electro pop outfit Miike Snow will be taking on the second night of sold-out, three-date stint at the Henry Fonda Music Box with none other than LAist favorite, Nashville's Daniel James, better known as Canon Blue. Berklee grad and Nashville's most promising pop folk songstress Madi Diaz is poised to grace Bardot in Hollyweird; It should be noted that Miike Snow will be DJing here after their show. And, lastly, loose-knit Durham-based collective, Daniel Hart's the Physics of Meaning will be taking on the Spaceland. The aforementioned violin virtuoso has lent his skills to St. Vincent, John Vanderslice and the Polyphonic Spree in times past. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Echo to catch LA-bred all-female, retro 60s pop rock quartet The Like (LAist Review, #2, #3), who recently recorded their forthcoming debut with none other than Mark Ronson and Phantom Planet front man Alex Greenwald. Local "retro-leaning" pop rock quintet the Young Veins, which of course features not one, but two former members of Panic! At The Disco, are slated to kick things off.
Week In Rock: Miike Snow, LCD Soundsystem, Dan Black, Local Natives

And last, but certainly not least, hometown heroes, Silver Lake's own indie rock sensation Local Natives (LAist Interview, Review, #2) will be dipping into Los Angeles for two sold-out dates—one at the Troubadour, and another at the Bootleg Theater—before heading out to conquer the world again. Needless to say, it is completely beyond us how quickly everything changes.
Tonight In Rock: Miike Snow, Crooked Cowboy, One Trick Pony, So Many Wizards
Tonight Swedish electro pop outfit Miike Snow will be kicking off a completely sold-out, three-night stint at the Henry Fonda Music Box with none other than LAist favorite, Nashville's Daniel James, better known as Canon Blue. Highland Park's own deep crooner Crooked Cowboy is poised to take on thesex in the outskirts of Downtown with local rock and roll outfit Slang Chickens (LAist Review). And, lastly, local indie rockers One Trick Pony, Rademacher, and Seasons will be gracing the one and only All Star Lanes in Eagle Rock. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Smell in Downtown to catch Long Beach-bred one-man band Nima Kazeroun, who performs under the pseudonym So Many Wizards.
SXSW 2010 Through Our Lens: Day One
First of all, it’s more madness this time around than I remembered. Maybe it’s because I’m getting older and lamer and my half-Irish liver can’t quite swing St. Patrick’s Day with as much gusto as it once did. Or maybe it’s because Molly and I, in an effort to bring recommendations, recap, and (SXSW) reality to those of you who couldn’t make it this year are trying to see as many bands as humanly possible each 24 hour period.
LAist On Location: SXSW 2010 - Day 2
Day two began right with pizza for breakfast at Homeslice Pizza and rock 'n' roll from North Carolina. Outside on the gravel patio they had set up a small stage where families were able to groove to The Love Language's set while enjoying their gooey cheese and sauce. Despite the rickety sound system, The Love Language sounded sharp. They've had a very good year. After self-releasing their critically acclaimed self titled album, The Love Language signed to Merge Records and have begun work recording their new album. We were curious to see if the new material they have been working on was worthy of their first album and are happy to report that...yes, yes it is.
Tonight In Rock: Fever Ray, Jack Peñate, Mika Miko, Thavius Beck
Tonight one half of acclaimed electro pop duo the Knife, Swedish experimental electro outfit Fever Ray will be performing at the Henry Fonda Music Box with none other than Pasadena-bred electronic mastermind Nosaj Thing. Local noise/punk act Mika Miko (LAist Review) are poised to take on the El Rey Theatre, opening for no-wave progenitors Teenage Jesus and the Jerks. And, lastly, LA-bred electronic musician/producer/MC Thavius Beck will be ringing in his latest disc at the Airliner in Lincoln Heights. But we strongly suggest heading over to Spaceland to catch English indie pop singer-songwriter Jack Peñate. Acclaimed Swedish electro pop trio Miike Snow are slated to kick things off.
Tonight In Rock: Ladyhawke, David Bazan, Gil Scott Heron, Jack Peñate
Tonight English indie rock singer-songwriter Jack Peñate will be headlining the Echo with none other than Swedish electro pop outfit Miike Snow. Early on in the day, New Zealand-bred electro pop singer-songwriter Ladyhawke is poised to grace Space 15 Twenty. And, lastly, Chicago's legendary spoken word soul performer Gil Scott Heron will be taking on the El Rey Theatre. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Troubadour to catch celebrated indie rock singer-songwriter David Bazan, who spent most of his formative years performing under the moniker Pedro the Lion.
Tonight In Rock: Matisyahu, Bat For Lashes, Miike Snow, LANDy
Tonight Hasidic Jewish reggae musician Matisyahu will be headlining the Wiltern. English/German indie rockers Art Brut are poised to kick off a three night stint at Spaceland with Swedish electro pop outfit Miike Snow in tow. And, lastly, actor/filmmaker Adam Goldberg's musical endeavor LANDy will be performing at the Echo with local indie rockers the French Semester. But we strongly suggest doing whatever it takes to get into the El Rey Theatre to catch Bat For Lashes, the pseudonym of Brighton-based singer-songwriter Natasha Khan. Local experimental electronic act Hecuba are slated to kick things off.
