Backstage at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards

Backstage at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards

We liveblogged the Grammys from backstage in the media room at Staples Center. It was an eventful day: Lady Gaga showed up in a giant egg, Eminem won just two awards despite having the most nominations. Lady Antebellum took five awards. Esperanza Spalding became the first jazz musician to win Best New Artist, hopefully wiping Bieber Fever from the planet for good. Arcade Fire took down Lady A, Lady Gaga, Eminem and Katy Perry to win album of the year. Mavis Staples, Buddy Guy, Herbie Hancock, Neil Young, Paul McCartney and Pinetop Perkins were among the senior nominees to win. more ›

DVD Tuesday: London Calls Bruce!

Who knew that people in London were such big Springsteen fans? Or was Hyde Park just full of expats? It was sad to see a solid film like The Green Zone completely fall flat at the box office. Its failure made it increasingly less likely that high-budgets will be spent on smart, complex films. Shame that. How can anyone not think that Exile on Main Street is the Stones' best album? Same goes for this as their best song. Entourage hasn't been good since the Aquaman season, and yet I continue to watch. I didn't love the first season of Hung, but how do you not keep up with the great Thomas Jane? more ›

The Screamers

Let's start getting excited for the Masque event with some Screamers. Tomata was one of the greatest frontmen who ever lived. Look at that stiff posture and screaming face. He was to accidentally inspire horrible bands like the Buggles, Gary Neuman and other new wave crap to come. But at the time, this approach was revolutionary. This is the year of disco and Mick Jagger. Sadly, we have have lost Tomata, so the Screamers will not be playing. But just look at that intense control balanced by ferocity. There will never be another like him. more ›

It's All About Alfie

It's All About Alfie

The film is very entertaining, if lightweight; it's sexy, stylish and has a groovy soundtrack showcasing the talents of Dave Stewart and Mick Jagger. Jude Law's performance finally delivers on the promise of his turn as Dickie Greenleaf in "The Talented Mr. Ripley." We've never seen Law so relaxed and funny. more ›
