David Gordon Green is in the very first rank of American filmmakers. As far as I'm concerned, every movie he makes is an automatic must-see on opening weekend. Snow Angels debuted last week in New York and opens today in Los Angeles. What sets Green's films apart from so many others is the lyrical melancholy that hovers over every scene and the carefully observed and rich humanity that inhabits every frame. tells two stories about love--one in ascension and one in decline. See it and be rewarded.

On the whole, horror movies don't scare me. Sure, there are the occasional exceptions (i,.e. zombie movies by Danny Boyle) but whenever a movie is starting to get to me, I can remind myself of how, well, movie-esque these movies can be. No, someone will not kill me in my sleep. There isn't a videotape that will kill you in seven days. And, no matter what you think, Jason Voorhees will not find a way to get into space in 2455.

Yeah, yeah, I know. . If you must have it, steal it. Oh, and does R. Kelly have no concept of irony?
