TV Junkie: 'Terriers' is Cancelled by FX; 'Men of a Certain Age' Premieres; Please Stop, 'SNL'
FX has cancelled "Terriers" - we participated on an unprecedented conference call with FX President and General Manager John Landgraf who expressed his regret at having to cancel the show while simultaneously uttering the timeless TV business reason for cancellation: the numbers. Tonight: "Men of a Certain Age" season premiere = Must-Watch. See our full listings and other news/info/opinion.
TV Junkie: Interview with Ray Romano of TNT's 'Men of a Certain Age'
On December 6th the second season of "Men of a Certain Age" returns to TNT and coincidentally the first season is available on DVD as of today. TNT has been re-running episodes in preparation for the new season so now you have several options to catch up on one of the best shows to (barely) debut in 2009.
TV Junkie: Weekend Wrap-Up; Sanchez Out; #MOACA Set Tour from Brittany Curran
Weekend TV Wrap Up: "SNL" does Bryan Cranston a disservice; "Dexter" muddled; "Bored To Death" FTW! Also: Rick Sanchez out? Like he's been the worst CNN offender; Brittany Curran gives us a tour of the "Men of a Certain Age" set.
TV Junkie: Emmys Around the Corner - Who Will Win?
The 2010 Primetime Emmys happen in 12 days, here are some of the scheduled presenters: Will Arnett, Stephen Colbert, Edie Falco, Tina Fey, Laurence Fishburne, Ricky Gervais, January Jones, Julianna Margulies, Matthew Morrison, John Krasinski and Sofia Vergara.
TV Junkie Interview: Brittany Curran Give Us The Inside Scoop on PaleyFest's 'Men of a Certain Age' Night
Brittany Curran plays Lucy Tranelli, the daughter of Ray Romano's character, Joe Tranelli, in TNT's excellent "Men of a Certain Age" (aka #MOACA) which just finished its first season a few weeks ago. We met and interviewed Curran just after the SAG awards and were very happy to see that she was going to be part of PaleyFest2010's "Men of a Certain Age" panel on the 12th. We asked her a few questions to find out from a first-timer, what it's like to be a part of a panel being honored at PaleyFest.
TV Junkie: 'The Pacific' on Sunday; 'Men of a Certain Age' @ PaleyFest Tonight
This weekend is all about HBO's new mini-series, "The Pacific" (see the promo above), which is also being renamed by some as "Band of Brothers - Part Deux". What made "Band of Brothers" so compelling was that we followed the same group of guys, Easy Company, throughout Europe, which made the storyline somewhat easier to follow. It was also incredibly interesting because these were true stories about real people, many of whom are still alive.
TV Junkie: NBC vs. CTV @ Olympics; Season Finale of 'Men of a Certain Age'
We're in Whistler at the Olympic games (we'll be posting vids and pics this week). Tonight we'll be checking out Devo and Chromeo who will both be performing for free as part of the celebration - performance that you won't be catching on NBC but that you would see on Canadian television.
TV Junkie: Winter Olympics Great Despite...
Other than the tragic death of Georgian luge rider Nodar Kumaritashvili, how do you think the 2010 Winter Olympics is going? Please give us your comments. We're very much enjoying seeing the world's athletes come together in Vancouver, but here are some things we've noted about the broadcast available in the good ol' US of A:
TV Junkie: 'Lost' Final Season Begins Tonight
Nothing can eclipse tonight's premiere of the final season of "Lost" on ABC. The real show starts at 9pm (2-hours long) but it's preceded by a rehash/review "Beginning of the End" show at 8pm in an attempt to refresh your brain (good luck).
TV Junkie: 'Men of a Certain Age' Spotlight
We feel that viewers have really lucked out with not only getting "Men of a Certain Age" but with the chance to really explore it more as the series has been renewed for another season. "Men of a Certain Age" airs on TNT on Mondays at 10pm but it seems like a show that might never have been as the pilot of the was shot almost a year and a half ago. It began airing just after Thanksgiving, a strange date to premiere, and it played through most of the holiday season while other shows tend to go on hiatus.
TV Junkie: Day 1 at SAG Awards Build-Out - Scott Bakula & Lauren Velez!
We talked with Bakula about "Men of a Certain Age", one of the best shows on TV right now, he gave us some hints about the rest of the season (Sarah Clarke aka Nina from "24" will be coming back!) and also let us in that he's hoping friend and former co-star Matt Damon will walk away with an award on Saturday.
TV Junkie: FOX Stays on Time Warner (for now); 'Heroes' Returns w/2 Hour Premiere; New 'MOACA' Episode
Welcome to 2010 an thanks for reading the TV Junkie on LAist. 2009 was a great year for us as we hit our 1,000th post a couple weeks ago (we'll post a highlights reel for you soon) and 2010 somehow looks even better. Why not start the year out right by following the TV Junkie on Twitter as well as our LAist feed. As always, your comments and feedback are always appreciated.
TV Junkie: You May Lose FOX (or not); 'MOACA' Tonight; NYE Shows
It's still possible, if not probable, that if you have Time Warner cable, you will lose your FOX stations at 12:01am this Friday as the network and cable provider have not reached an agreement on the per subscriber reimbursement fee. FOX wants up to 50% more per subscriber compared to the other major networks fees and Time Warner isn't happy about that. Unless you want your fee to get a non-significant hike, you shouldn't be happy about it either. With less than 4 days to go, do you think they will work things out?
TV Junkie: 'Better Off Ted' Returns; 'Alice' Criticism; TV Beats Web
The Twitterverse was abuzz with mentions of TNT's "Men of a Certain Age" which premiered yesterday - the show scored as the top new series launch for basic cable this year. In the meantime, check out our interview with series star Andre Braugher who had a powerful performance in the pilot.
TV Junkie: 'Men of a Certain Age' Premieres; Martha's Guest Line-Up; 'Monk' Breaks Record
Please check out our interview with multi-Emmy-winner Andre Braugher who is starring in TNT's premiere of "Men of a Certain Age" tonight at 10pm. The show is penned and produced by Ray Romano and it's no three-camera-with-studio-audience comedy. It's an excellent show and despite the name it's not targeted at 40-something guys. In our screener viewing party, the women in our (non-scientifically-selected) audience liked it at least as much as the men.
Interview: Andre Braugher - Starring in 'Men of a Certain Age' Premiering Tonight
Multi-Emmy-award winner Andre Braugher is a cast member of multi-Emmy-award winner Ray Romano's new comedy on TNT, "Men of a Certain Age" which premieres tonight at 10pm. So how did one of the greatest Shakespearean actors of our generation get involved with a TV comedy? Perhaps because this isn't any ordinary comedy - this is Ray Romano unfettered by the 3-cameras-and-a-studio-audience format. This is also Ray Romano putting together realistic storylines without getting subjected to network-managed focus groups and who-knows-how-many layers of management. The result is an excellent show (we've seen 4 episodes), of what the LA Times is calling a dramedy, with honest-to-life characters, great dialogue, and situations that range from the very funny to the poignant. The critics who have already published their "Top Ten TV Shows of 2009" without including "Men of a Certain Age" have been more than premature.
