Martin Luther King Jr. was fatally shot at 6:01 p.m. on April 4, 1968 while standing on the balcony outside of his second-story room of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. In town to support a strike by sanitation workers, the civil rights leader was on his way to an event when he was struck in the jaw by a bullet that severed his spinal cord. King was pronounced dead at a Memphis hospital just after 7:00 p.m. He was 39 years old. This powerful and prophetic speech, referred to as "I've Been to the Mountaintop," was delivered the day before his assassination.

Tourney Talk with Jason King of Yahoo! Sports
We are counting down to the madness. One of the most exciting days in sports and the least productive work days on the calendar, the opening round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Championships, is less than 24 hours away.

LAst Night's Action: Lakers #1!
Lakers 130, Suns 124 - So I'm like "OMG!" and then she's like "fer reelllllz!" And then I'm like "NO.WAY." and the she's like "totally."
LAst Night's Action: Lakers Obliterate Hawks
Lakers 122, Hawks 93 - Atlanta had a bad draw. They were coming into a pumped-up Staples Center that hadn't seen the Lakers play a home game in weeks. They were coming in against a team rejuvenated by Pau Gasol. They were coming in against a Kobe Bryant with something to prove. Before halftime, the Lakers had a 41 point lead.
Kwame traded to Grizzlies for Gasol
The LA Times has just confirmed the rumor that the 9 million dollar statue of Kwame Brown has just been traded to the Memphis Grizzlies, along with 2007 first round draft pick Javaris Crittenton and 2008 and 2010 first round picks. In exchange, the Lakers are picking up the way more competent Pau Gasol. This could do a lot to energize the Lakers, who lost the first of their nine games on the road last night by ONE POINT after rallying back from a 17-point deficit.
CA Teen Arrested for Plans of Plane Hijack
Tuesday, a 16-year-old California teenager was arrested in Nashville after a Southwest Airlines flight Los Angeles. The AP reports that "Authorities searched the teen's home in California and found a mock cockpit... The teen's parents were reportedly unaware he was traveling to Nashville." Rumors floated around the media saying the teen planned to crash the plane into a Louisiana Hannah Montana concert.
Bynum Out 8 Weeks With Kobe's Positive Attitude
You can halt production on that purple and gold 2008 NBA Champions afghan you’ve been crocheting so diligently -- Lakers center Andrew Bynum is going to be out for the next 8 weeks. Bynum suffered a dislocated kneecap and a bone bruise courtesy of Lamar Odom’s big ass foot during the Laker’s victory over Memphis on Sunday. The good news is that the injury will not require surgery and the 20 year old big man is expected to recover fully.
LAst Night's Action: LA Mauls Nashville, and Vice-Versa
Lakers 117, Grizzlies 101 - A few weeks ago, KLAC's Matt "Money" Smith said he wouldn't be surprised if the Lakers lost all their remaining games or won all their remaining games. It's looking like the latter. They thumped Memphis in Tennessee and are a game and a half back of Phoenix for first place in the West. It was a special occasion, as even the referees got into Elvis night.
LAst Night's Action: Big Burst for Ducks
Ducks 5, Predators 2 - Anaheim erupted for four goals in the second period, two coming off of the power play and one on a delayed penalty. It was a welcome change of pace for a team that's been lacking on offense the past few weeks. The contributions came across the board, as not a single player was in the minus.
CD Review: Neil Young - Chrome Dreams Two
Artist: Neil Young Album: Chrome Dreams Two Label: Reprise Records Release Date: October 23, 2007 “An ambulance can only go so fast”, sang Neil Young thirty-three years ago in the stony career meditation “Ambulance Blues.” “It’s easy to get buried in the past/ When you try to make a good thing last.” It’s kind of funny to think about guys like Pete Townshend and Eric Clapton making records about the perils of aging at...

CD Review: Memphis 'A Little Place In the Wilderness'
Artist: Memphis Album: A Little Place In the Wilderness Release Date: June 2007 Label: Good Fences Memphis released this album in Canada a year ago and now it's made it to the US. This was a hard record to listen to in the summertime, what with it's many references to snow and snowy countrysides, ostensibly up in Canada, as it was written and recorded in the winter of 2005-6. All the vocals, guitars, and...
Kobe: Bring Jerry Back or Trade Me
Kobe Bryant has made a bold demand to the Lakers front office. According to ESPN's Ric Bucher, the disgruntled diva shooting guard is asking owner, Dr. Jerry Buss to dig into the franchise's past and bring back Jerry West to replace Mitch Kupchak as general manager.
Tonight in Rock in LA - Britney Spears, Velvet Revolver, The Circle Jerks, Linda Ronstad
The M+M's are definitely Britney and her girls, y'all, but don't blink because they gave San Diego 14 minutes Tuesday and trimmed it down to 12 minutes last night in Downtown Disney, so if you're in the beer line and hear familiar music you should probably, um, get out of line because before you can say hey-shes-lipsynching-while-chewing-gum the show will be over The M+M's (Britney Spears) @ House of Blues Velvet Revolver @ Avalon...
Not Clutch
The difference between great teams and pretty-good teams, or pretty-good teams and mediocre teams is small. It’s a demonstrated ability to make plays at critical junctures of games. Great teams do it often, pretty-good teams do it sometimes, mediocre teams only occasionally. Memphis Grizzlies, never. The Clippers’ deflating three-point overtime loss to the NO/OKC Hornets last night once again reflected the teams’ inability to make the plays in the clutch, an ability that has by...
LAst Night's Action: 24 Only Worth 23
Grizzlies 88, Lakers 86 - When these two teams faced off a few days ago, Kobe had 60 points. This time it didn't go so well. Kobe was held to 23 and the Lakers were held to 34.4 percent from the field. With Kobe out of steam, Memphis ended the Laker's 5 game winning streak and avenging their previous game against Los Angeles. Surprising from a team that still hasn't won two straight games this...
The Lakers Story: What Goes Up Must Come Down
Coming off of a five-game winning streak, the Lakers lost 88 to 86 to the Memphis Grizzlies - the worst team in the league- on Tuesday night. Kobe played poorly, missing his first two free throws of the game and scoring only 23 points overall. The score was tied with one minute to go, but a three-pointer from Memphis' Tarence Kinsey brought the Grizzlies back up and the Lakers never really recovered.
Kobe’s Scoring Is Bad For The Lakers?
While Kobe had an “off night” when he put up 43 against Golden State on Sunday, breaking his streak of games scoring 50 or more at four, he could return to his high scoring ways tonight against Memphis. The same Memphis he dropped 60 on last week.
The LAkers Story - The Night Kobe Only Got 43
The Lakers continued their five-game winning streak with Sunday night’s 115-113 win over the Golden State Warriors. Kobe Bryant did not stretch his 50+ points game streak to five, scoring (only) 43 points. Lamar Odom was also instrumental with 24 points and 19 rebounds. The game turned out to be a nail-biter when Golden State’s Stephen Jackson dropped a three-pointer with 1.9 seconds to go, making it a one-point game, but a free throw...
Going For Six?
Kobe has already made history in the last week, becoming only the second player ever in the NBA to score 50 or more points in four straight games. Not so coincidentally, those were four Laker wins.
The LAkers Story
The big question last night was if Kobe would be the first Laker to score three 50+ games in a row since Elgin Baylor did it in 1962. And he did. And more. But the game wasn't all it was cracked up to be. There’s no reason why the Lakers shouldn't be able to shake the worst team in the league, especially when they made mincemeat out of Kevin Garnett and the Timberwolves last...
Kobe: Standing With Wilt and MJ
Kobe has been amazing. The only guy who has scored 50+points in more consecutive games than Kobe is Wilt Chamberlain. It’s heady company, basically the answer to every NBA scoring trivia question is Wilt Chamberlain. Wilt did a lot of things that were amazing.
LAst Night's Action: March Into History
Lakers 121, Grizzlies 119 - It's March Madness, but the most impressive hoops action keeps coming from a guy who never played a minute of college ball. Kobe had 60 points against Memphis, but it wasn't just his one game point total that generated buzz. This is the third game in a row he has scored at least 50, a feat only matched by Wilt Chamberlain, Michael Jordan, Elgin Baylor. Chamberlain actually did it seven...

Lakers are 7-4 in High Definition ...but not for long sportsfans!
Lamar: "It's about time that KCAL started broadcasting us in HD." Kobe: "Yeah? It's about time your fuckin knee healed. How 'bout that?" The Lakers are #2 in the Pacific Division with a .643 record and have a .636 record in games broadcast in High Definition. Pretty good, since the games are only broadcast in high def when they play top teams... until now. Starting February 2nd, all Laker away games on KCAL 9...
American Idol - Poor Boys and Pilgrims With Families and We Are Going To Graceland
Clearly, things are amiss in Memphis. Maybe it’s something in the water. Maybe it’s too humid there. I really don’t know. Whatever the reason, it brought some truly special behavior to last night’s auditions.
