It seems there’s not much room for magic these days. “Oohs” and “Aahs” have been replaced with narrow-eyed skepticism, while the lovely darkness of simply not knowing something is little more than a Siri answer away. Thankfully, there are guys like Justin Willman out there, trying not to let us ruin all the fun for ourselves.

Show Review: Meltdown Blends Comics and ... Comics
OK, follow me. Yup, right in through here, and straight to the counter. No, we’re not stopping to look at the Walking Dead comics. ID, cash, hand stamp, and on through the nondescript double doors in the back. Yeah, it’s dark, and the ceiling’s a little low, just trust me. It’s a lot less ‘Deer Hunter Russian roulette’ scene than you’re thinking. See? Listen to all that laughter. Look, and there’s Matt Braunger. He wouldn’t kill anybody.*
Death, Sin, Redemption, Morality: Gallery Show Features Artists' Take on Law & Order Plotlines
For fans of TV's Law & Order franchise, catching an episode in rerun can be like greeting an old, familiar (and sometimes disturbing) friend. For the first few minutes you might be working to unravel your own mystery after pulling up the episode on your on-screen guide: "Hmmm, have I seen this one before? Is it the guy who works in the deli who collects the kiddie porn?"

Roller Derby and Art Collide
Here at LAist, we know that everyone loves a Derby Girl. So we’re pretty sure that this Saturday night, when the lovely ladies of Angel City Derby Girls pair up with Meltdown Comics to hold an art auction, Eat Your Art Out, it promises to be a good party.

The First Rule of Felt Club
Mom wants to be hip. She's tired of silk scarves from Nordstrom's and Liz Taylor handbags. What she wants this Mother's Day is a monster-appliqué purse and a set of robot-stencilled tea towels, all made by local hipster craftspeople. Who happen to be selling iridescent cupcakes in the parking lot of a comic book store. Ok, maybe not. But you might — and you can tell yourself you're shopping for mom.
Infamous Infamy
Pretend for a moment you're one of the world's most infamous supervillains. Then pretend for a moment that you turn States' evidence and enter the Supervillain relocation program where you and a slew of other baddies are stuck in a small town with no future escape in sight.
One Man's Obsession Is Another Man's Treasure
Yesterday was New Comics Day (new comic books are released on Wednesdays, so if you have a friend or loved one who disappears for a few hours each Wednesday, chances are that they're a closet geek), which took us to one of our favorite local comic book haunts. Yes, we're geeky, and we admit it.
Last minute gifting
If you're celebrating Christmas but haven't yet finished your shopping, there's not a moment to spare. A couple of our contributors have some shopping spots they love that might be a good bet.
A Familiar Part of Town
It felt bizarre being in Cinespace watching a short film with several scenes set in the club and receiving email from the same venue reminding us that they are showing Spanglish this week as their Dinner & a Movie film. But we shouldn't be surprised, Another Part of Town is all about the random but familiar that is life in Hollywood. Four friends embark on Friday night escapades that have them in different parts of Los Angeles (although all seemingly east side and north of the 10) and come together the next morning to discuss...although this part of it doesn't come across in the short as everything feels like its being told in real time rather than via flashback.
