Local comedians Christine Blackburn and Hannes Phinney are the creators and co-hosts of Story Worthy, a series of podcasts and live story-telling performances that tell the often-hilarious true tales of LA locals. You know, stories about sleeping with yoga teachers, scalping tickets at the Greek Theater, and trouble-shooting old Craftsman plumbing before the rabbi arrives.

Another Valentine's Day Option: Words of Love from the Silver Screen at M Bar
By now we've heard how terrible the "romantic comedy" Valentine's Day movie really is, so go ahead and check that off your list of possible things to do tomorrow with your paramour. But we found another option that's so much better for fans of romance from the big screen.
DVD Review: Andy Kindler’s ‘I Wish I Was Bitter’
Andy Kindler isn’t your typical stand-up comic. That’s a good thing.
Get Ready to Celebrate Blumesday
Judy Blume turned 70 this year. Jill Soloway and friends are planning a celebration of one of their favorite authors with a tribute of readings, performance, and music at M Bar.
Pencil This In: Monday

LA kitsch expert Charles Phoenix brings together an evening of live comedy, including the Bob Baker Marionettes, roller rink organist Dominic Cangelosi and a few other surprises. The entertainment's all in combination with his "Retro Holiday Slide Show," comprised of slides he found at area thrift shops and flea markets.
The Thrilling Adventure & Supernatural Suspense Hour
Close your eyes and gather around the radio and listen to tales that will make you cringe or giggle. This Saturday night brings the next monthly installment of The Thrilling Adventure & Supernatural Suspense Hour, a live old-school style radio performance at the M Bar in Hollywood, which according to the fine folks at Workjuice is comprised of "several serialized short-form comedic radio plays as well as standalone pieces, musical numbers, and the occasional...
Communism and Burglary Go To Scotland
Can't get enough of that Russian political satire? This weekend is your last chance to see the Open Fist's production of HOW TO EXPLAIN THE HISTORY OF COMMUNISM TO MENTAL PATIENTS before they head off to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, which is sort of the Burning Man-meets-Sundance of theater festivals, with a lot of cobblestones.
Latebreaking Monday night
If you're undaunted by rain or the rain-induced traffic, you haven't grown soft like so many Angelenos. You know you won't melt! In other cities it rains all the time! Maybe you're just dying to get out tonight, but don't know what's going on.

More than 60 Minutes of Old-Timey Radio Fun plus alcohol!
This past Thursday LAist had the pleasure of wandering a sort of semi-timewarp at the M Bar. Stepping from 2005 into the 1940s, we watched the wonder that is "The Thrilling Adventure and Supernatural Suspense Hour".
Post-Polaroid Party
Since we're sure our audience consists only of the hippest of hip, we know you're already familiar with the 24-hour Film phenomenon (recently jacked by MTV and extended into the 72-hour Film Shootout -- ed. note: 72-hour Film Shootout is currently advertising on the site.) Well, in case you didn't know, Instant Films is a 48-hour iteration of the same grassroots movement, also working on a kind of Mad Libs principle, with cast, crew and subject matter chosen at random. That said, a lot of the stuff coming out of Instant Films is top-notch hysterical. LAist recently found ourselves at CinemaEnema, a screening of short films at the Chinchilla/3eye5 loft space downtown, in which the audience went wild over an Instant Film directed by Chase Gordon called "Free Lunch."
Must Have Been Someone Else
• Tonight at the Silverlake Lounge, KCRW presents Sam Phillips with Les Shelleys (Tom Brosseau and Angela Correa) for a reasonable $20. LAist suggests showing up early if you want to get in.
