Tonight In Rock: Matt Pond PA, Loch Lomond, April Smith & The Great Picture Show, Bikos

Tonight Halifax-based indie rockers Wintersleep, who recently released their fourth studio-album, 2010's New Inheritors, will be warming up the stage at the Troubadour for none other than the City of Brotherly Love's own indie rock maestros Matt Pond PA. Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter April Smith & The Great Picture Show is poised to grace the Hotel Café with New Jersey-bred folk singer-songwriter Jenny Owen Youngs. And, lastly, Culver City/Mar Vista-based indie rock sextet Bikos will be taking on Pehrspace. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Bootleg Theater to catch Portland-based pop folk sextet Loch Lomond. LAist favorites, Seattle's own pop folk outfit Hey Marseilles are slated to kick things off. more ›

Sea Wolf @ The Troubadour, 5/1/07

Sea Wolf opened for Sloan last night at the Troubadour. The band featured music soon-to-be released EP, Get To The River Before It Runs Too Low. Lead singer Alex Brown Church, the bands only invariable member and also current member of the band Irving, felt like a young Jeff Tweedy. The kind of guy who can’t help but seem genuine in everything he does. Melodically lilting and filled with hopefully melancholy, the songs fit the... more ›

Tonight in Rock in LA - Honky

Last spring LAist went to SXSW where there were 1,300 bands. Many were good, but a few rose to the top. Local trio Honky was one of the standouts. Dirty, sweaty, down home southern rock in the vein of all your favorites. Like if ZZ Top left behind some tattooed bastard sons out there in La Grange. more ›
