The future school kids of California will soon learn the valuable contributions to history by members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community by reading about them in their textbooks. Yesterday, the Assembly approved a bill okaying the addition of the info to our state's textbooks, and that bill lands on the desk of Governor Jerry Brown today.
California Lawmakers Continue Push For Feds to End Medical Marijuana Raids, Create New Policy
A Senate Joint Resolution initiated in June of last year is moving towards adoption today follwoing a 10-3 vote in its favor by the California State Assembly Committee on Health, according to a press release issued by the advocacy group Americans for Safe Access.
Family Council Says Bill Will 'Further Undermine & Confuse Marriage'
The California Family Council this week went on the offense about a bill making its way through the legislature that would redefine marriage, literally. As they explain, Senator Mark Leno's SB 906 would make "several unnecessary changes to the state Family Code related to the definition of marriage by replacing the term 'marriage' with the phrase 'civil marriage,' attempting to create a new class of marriage."
Schwarzenegger Signs 2 Gay Rights Bills
Among the hundreds of bills signed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger last night, two gay rights ones were authored by San Francisco's Senator Mark Leno. One names May 22nd as Harvey Milk Day and the other recognizes same-sex marriages from other states by providing "the same legal protections that would otherwise be available to couples that enter into civil unions or domestic partnerships out-of-state," according to the bill's language. "In short, this measure honors the will of the People in enacting Proposition 8 while providing important protections to those unions legally entered into in other states."
Complete Streets Legislation Passes, but What is it?
