Tonight at The Valley of the Dolls, Brigitte Coovert will bring her Zombuki creations to LA. Coovert describes Zombuki as a combination of the word zombie and kabuki. These chimeras of the doll world are meant to be a hybrid of many styles and cultures.

Tomorrow is the finish up the AMGEN Tour of California in Pasadena. But before hitting the old money city, they're headed towards Santa Clarita this afternoon (where Six Flags Magic Mountain has decided to stay put). From 4 to 10 p.m. tonight “Rock the Bike,” a free outdoor cycling expo and music festival, will bring together an array of people following the stage 6 finish. Various bands will be playing and headlining act, the Gin Blossoms, will be on stage around 8 p.m. (of course, if it rains, who knows what will happen, this is an outdoor event). The tour itself is aired on the cable channel, VERSUS, at 2 p.m. today and tomorrow. For more check our TV weekend listings.

More What Made Milwaukee Famous? Yes, more of that!

We have a few pairs of tickets to a rare theatrical screening of the extended director’s cut of Robert Rodriguez’s Planet Terror at Screamfest 07 this Monday at Mann's Chinese. In many people's minds Planet Terror was the better of the two Grindhouse films that came through town as a double-feature. Not even Quentin could compete with the zombies vs the hot one-legged babe w/ machine gun attachment. That babe, by the way, one...

It's a national holiday, so we got this one posted a little late. For those of you wondering why we're not inundating you with USC coverage, that's because I'm posting All Things Trojan over at latimes.com. If you'd like to help us do some Trojan coverage here, drop me a line at adam@laist.com. Also, "LAst Night's Action" is only posting about three times a week but will return to a regular M-F schedule starting September...

Marilyn Manson and Slayer bashed open our collective brains, and feasted on our souls. We in turn worshiped and thanked them for every second of it. Of course, it's a haul getting one's ass all the way out to the damned Irvine Meadows/Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, but where else can these dudes play? Promoters aren't letting all of us head bangers and moshers into the Hollywood Bowl anytime soon. Pffft... we'd destroy that place. The...

Slayer and Marilyn Manson will be rocking the Irvine Meadows / Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine this Friday. The two are doing a summer-long, 41-date, world-tour together, and are going to make us all cry tears of joy and blood. Having seen Slayer several times, I can assure you that seeing them live is priceless.

Maybe we should take things like this more seriously, but last week "vandals" broke into a vacation home in Palm Springs and caused some eyebrows to rise when they turned over furniture (very nicely), arranged foliage and sticks to create pentagrams and clog toilets, and wrote words like "Pigz" and "Helter Skelter" on a window and on the fireplace... with soap! It was right around the 38th anniversary of the Manson Family murders of...

I really, really, really liked Grindhouse for many reasons that I can probably only effectively communicate to you orally and/or non verbally. But this is the written word, so alas, I must force myself. Meanwhile, you will have to imagine my excited gesticulations. I do a lot of pointing, and thumbs up, and punching motions, karate kicks, Elvis arm moves, and touchdown dance type shit when I talk about Grindhouse. It’s that type of...

In another example of a Chicagoan coming to LA to change something sacred comes the story of Carl Amari who is putting together a box set of cds that will contain the dramatic reading of The Bible by Hollywood actors. For some reason they can't figure out who to play Satan. The first part of the project, a 20-CD set of the New Testament for $49.95, will arrive in stores in October. Considering the...

“Dancing With the Stars” (ABC, 8:00 p.m.) Really, is this worth watching anymore without Springer on it? We're hoping for some kind of graphic dance-floor accident, or perhaps a Carrie-at-the-senior-prom reenactment. “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” (NBC, 9:00 p.m.) Liza Minelli makes a cameo appearance in this Halloween-tinged episode. “Veronica Mars” (the CW, 9:00 p.m.) The underground campus casino is robbed in this Halloween-tainted episode. “Frontline/World” (PBS, 9:00 p.m.) The Burmese government conducts a...

Like Vincent Gallo, LAist dates girls half our age. So the other day when one of our gfs was reading some older posts, she objected when we made fun of Panic! at the Disco, an easy target if ever there was one. Although it's very difficult to debate the musical plusses of a group like PATD with a young lady who has clearly lost her mind, at some point we, too, lost our mind...

If you hit boredom this weekend, maybe a movie about overcoming boredom will suit the bill. Duck Season is a Mexican indie comedy where the XBOX breaks, the neighbor girl comes over to bake, and the pizza boy won’t leave (we wouldn’t pay a 30 minute delivery guarantee if it were 11 seconds late either!). Duck Season plays at the Laemmle’s Sunset 5, Monica 4, and the Playhouse 7 in Pasadena.
