What? There are unnecessary quotation marks in the title? Better report this to the good people over at The "Blog" of "Unnecessary" Quotation Marks. I especially like the ones with people selling "chicken" "hamburgers" or "maple syrup".

I've lived in the U.S.A. for more than half my life now, but I still grapple with the issue of cultural identity and a sense of national heritage. This is further complicated by the fact that my people and my motherland suffer from what I see as a lack of culture beyond a handful of longstanding stereotypes that I feel oftentimes at a loss to counter or defend, unless I am taking exception to...

KABC has wasted no time in getting the awkward questions, stammered remarks, and best wishes to everyone coming down the red carpet. So far we've already heard them refer to Ben Stiller as "studly", and Naomi Watt's very current gown as "vintage". It's almost too painful to watch, but you know we'll keep doing it.

After almost two weeks of watching speed skaters stuffed like sausages into slick full-body leotards and figure skaters exposing their, uh, figures in tiny frilled dresses, LAist is on a mission to eat a breakfast of champions. Or rather, brunch, since we went out last night.

Tomorrow afternoon in Chef Eric's Culinary Classroom you can learn how to make your own complete Thanksgiving dinner. First time hosts and hostesses, this could be right up your alley, particularly if you're a newlywed with some in-laws to impress. On Chef Eric's menu: Roasted turkey breast with rosemary and lemon, homemade gravy with fresh herbs and garlic, creamy mashed potatoes and carrots, Portobello mushroom stuffing, fresh cranberry and orange compote, red pepper pudding with jalapeno, hearty corn bread with maple syrup, haricot vert in thyme cream with crispy onions, sweet potatoes baked with apples and oranges in maple syrup, sweet pumpkin pie, and pumpkin cheesecake with ginger snap cookie-crumb crust. The cost is $75.00 per person, and reservations are required. Could be a worthwhile investment if you're having a houseful of mouths on turkey day.

Did you turn your clock back an hour yet? No? Then get back into bed, sleep for another hour, then come back to the kitchen to make perfect-for-Halloween pumpkin pancakes for a very lazy autumn brunch.

We here at LAist are unabashed fans of Halloween. It is the one holiday that inspires us to go completely Martha Stewart, from homemade decorations and yummy punches to fresh-baked goodies for guests and ghouls alike who come along for the celebration. This year, besides the Skewered Tortellini with Lemon-Parmesan Creme FraiƧhe, Marinated Mozzarella and Pomegranate Punch, we wanted to entice our guests with something sweet: Pumpkin-Gingerbread Cupcakes with Maple Cream Cheese Icing.
