Why Manny Is Gone

On Friday Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said that the Dodgers would not be inclined to deal away key players while the Dodgers were in playoff contention. He also said that outfielder Manny Ramirez was crucial in the Dodgers making the postseason. Today it was officially announced that the Chicago White Sox would get Ramirez in a straight waiver deal. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Crawl Into Wild Card Hunt

LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Crawl Into Wild Card Hunt

LA Dodgers defeat Milwaukee Brewers 5-4. The Dodgers responded to the Brewers three-run bottom of the fourth inning right away by getting three runs for themselves in the top of the fifth. While Andre Ethier hit a solo homer off of Brewers’ starter and former Dodger Randy Wolf (L, 10-10) in the third inning to start off the scoring, the story for the Dodgers was their doubles. Manny Ramirez and Ryan Theriot hit two apiece while James Loney and Casey Blake hit one each to help back Hiroki Kuorda (W, 9-11) who went seven innings giving up the four Brewers runs. Jonathan Broxton pitched a perfect eighth inning and a combination of Ronald Belisario, George Sherrill and Octavio Dotel (S, 22) pitched a perfect ninth. The Dodgers are now 3-0 with Manny Ramirez in the starting lineup and are a manageable 5 ½ games back in the wild card race. more ›

Dodgers Kick Start Offense Against Reds 8-5

Putting it politely, the Dodgers have been offensively challenged since the All-Star break. For one night, at least, the Dodgers bucked that trend doing all the kicking of Cincinnati Reds’ starter Johnny Cueto (L, 11-4) by belting four solo homers off of him en route to an 8-5 victory. “Four home runs - that certainly came out of nowhere,” Torre said. “We knew it was in there somewhere.” After hitting back-to-back homers only once this season when Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier did it in the first inning in a game against the San Francisco Giants on April 16, the Dodgers did it twice: Ryan Theriot and Ethier in the second inning, and Jay Gibbons and Kemp in the third inning. more ›

Adam Dunn Is At Dodger Stadium

The Washington Nationals first baseman slugger Adam Dunn was claimed off of waivers this afternoon by an unknown team. The Nationals placed Dunn on waivers Tuesday afternoon Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle confirmed that the Giants were not that team that claimed Dunn. Schulman went on to speculate that the Dodgers were the team to claim Dunn, however nothing has been confirmed. It is typical of teams not to acknowledge any impending waiver wire transactions until they have been completed. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Angels Win Series Against Rangers

LAst Night's Action: Angels Win Series Against Rangers

LA Angels defeat Texas Rangers 2-1. The Angels yet again got on the board in the first inning Howie Kendrick doubled in lead-off hitter Erick Aybar, but after that it was a whole bunch of nothing. A pitchers’ duel emerged between the Rangers’ CJ Wilson and the Angels’ Jered Weaver as they staved off the other team. It wasn’t an NL West type of pitchers’ duel where it was 1-2-3-strike out. It took a lot of pitches... more ›

Dodgers Finally Slip against Padres

Bad pitching by both teams helped drag the game as if this was a Yankees-Red Sox game. At the end of this three hour, forty-eight minute hit-fest it was the Padres who stood on top 10-5. The teams combined for 26 hits and left 22 runners on base. more ›

Giants, Lincecum Bleed Out Dodgers 9 - 0

This afternoon at Dodger Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers (5-6) achieved the second half of that old ballpark saying: “you win some, you lose some.” Two-time Cy Young winner/Longhair, San Franco Giant Tim Lincecum did what he usually does, and gutted the Dodgers bats in front of 44,734. In six scoreless innings Lincecum (3-0) allowed just four hits and seven strikeouts. more ›

LAist Interview: Dodgers Blogger Diamond Leung

Diamond Leung still loves baseball and journalism. But you'd understand if he didn't. After five years at the Riverside-Press Enterprise, two of those as the Dodgers beat writer, Leung, 27, was laid off from his post after the paper eliminated most of its baseball coverage. The San Francisco native and UCLA grad, at right, moved back to his hometown and did what any young, self respecting unemployed baseball lover would do: start a blog. The aptly named Diamond Notes is a baseball news source that aggregates some of the more interesting finds others may miss. We caught up with him yesterday, touching on the Dodgers diminishing World Series hopes, life after journalism and why he doesn't watch baseball on T.V. more ›

Dodgers Sweep Cardinals!

For the second consecutive season the Dodgers sweep an NL Central team in the National League Divisional Series - this season the Cardinals played the role of the victim losing 5-1 in game three. Although Matt Kemp had a golden sombrero (four strikeouts), Manny Ramirez and Andre Ethier went 3-for-5 each. Manny knocked in two RBI while Ethier was a single short of the cycle, hitting a two-run homer in the second inning. Dodgers starter Vicente Padilla threw a gem of a game shutting out the Cardinals for seven innings giving up only four hits and a walk while striking out four. The Dodgers now face the winner of the Philadelphia Phillies and Colorado Rockies series. more ›

It's Time for October Baseball

It's Time for October Baseball

The speculation of postseason rosters, pitching rotation and all that rot is over. October baseball has finally arrived for your Los Angeles Dodgers. The club is feeling confident but ready for a good fight. “I obviously know that it’s a tough task obviously going against a guy who probably was the frontrunner for the Cy Young,” game one starter Randy Wolf said Tuesday about going against St. Louis Cardinal’s ace Chris Carpenter. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Blue Monday Edition

LAst Night's Action: Blue Monday Edition

Seven of eight ESPN "experts" are picking the St. Louis Cardinals to beat the Dodgers. "Baseball Tonight" anchor Karl Ravech is even picking the Cardinals to sweep. The lone dissenter is Eric Neel who is picking the Dodgers in five. I don't get it. Starting Wednesday a new season will begin. What happened in the regular season is irrelevant. So while most people are picking the Cardinals to win because they won the season series 5-2, it means nothing. Just because Chris Carpenter and Adam Wainwright looked indomitable, it's just hogwash. more ›

Manny's Missing Mouthguard

Manny's Missing Mouthguard

Last night after the game, I was listening to Dodger Talk with co-hosts Ken Levine and Josh Suchon. I was trying to get any added insight to the retaliation pitch Dodger reliever Guillermo Mota bounced off of Milwaukee Brewer Prince Fielder’s sizable gut. During the broadcast, a caller shifted gears and asked the hosts, “Why doesn’t Manny wear his custom mouthguard anymore?” I knew the answer and decided I’d call in. more ›
