Tonight In Rock: James Mercer, Ferraby Lionheart, Mia Doi Todd, Seasons

Tonight the Shins front man James Mercer will be joining an all-star cast at the Wiltern to benefit Haiti. Local folk troubadour Ferraby Lionheart (LAist Interview, Review) is poised to take on the Bootleg Theater with local singer-songwriter Willoughby in tow. And, lastly, Highland Park's own experimental rockers Seasons will be performing at the Echo with none other than Highland Park-bred post-punk outfit Manhattan Murder Mystery. But we strongly suggest heading over to Spaceland to catch LAist's favorite local singer-songwriters Mia Doi Todd. more ›

Tonight Québécois indie rockers Sunset Rubdown, which began as a solo project of Wolf Parade front man Spencer Krug, will be headlining the Troubadour. Local indie rock duo the Voyeurs (LAist Interview, Review) are poised to take on the Echo with none other than the Flying Tourbillon Orchestra (LAist Review, #2, #3). But we strongly suggest heading over to Cinespace to catch British disco-infused rock trio We Have Band. more ›

Tonight In Rock: Robyn, Everest, Jack's Mannequin, Kenan Bell

Tonight In Rock: Robyn, Everest, Jack's Mannequin, Kenan Bell

Tonight LA offers a bevy of options that make our show-going brain hurt. We've got the conclusion of the usual free Monday Night Residencies. Kenan Bell will be performing one final night with the Morning Benders and White Arrows at Spaceland. Rademacher and the Western States Motel (LAist Interview) will be wrapping up shop at the Echo with One Trick Pony and Seasons. And Manhattan Murder Mystery will be doing the same with Princeton (LAist Interview) and Divisadero at Mr. T's Bowl. But we're going to try to tackle two shows. How? Well, we'll start things off in the heart of Downtown at the Smell with the jazz-infused pop rock group LAKE and then continue the rather tranquil evening over in K-town at R Bar with LA's own alt-rockers Everest, who will be playing around 9:30 PM. The secret password? "hilljack" more ›

Tonight In Rock: Tina Turner, Jolie Holland, Rademacher, Kenan Bell

Tonight In Rock: Tina Turner, Jolie Holland, Rademacher, Kenan Bell

It's Monday and that means the lion's share of shows are free residencies. Fresno-based Rademacher will continue to rock over at the Echo. And LA-based new wave outfit Manhattan Murder Mystery will continue to croon at Mr T's Bowl. But we wholeheartedly suggest checking out Kenan Bell's Monday Night Residency at Spaceland. Our favorite two-man instrumental band El Ten Eleven, who are best known for the seldom-used guitar/bass doubleneck, will be opening up the show with wailing notes and disco beats. more ›
