With the undefeated Minnesota Wild coming in hot to Staples last night, everything looked primed for the Kings to party like it was 1987 by tying that season's horrendous opening record. To make that party even more likely, the Kings activated career-backup J.S. Aubin from the injured reserve and threw his ass in goal in place of shell-shocked Jonathon Bernier. Hung out to dry nightly via awful defensive protection, Bernier was sent down to his junior squad to protect his development and confidence. Also sent packing was son-of-the-ex-coach Brady Murray, another youngster in need of more ice-time outside the NHL.

Kings 3, Blue Jackets 0 - Columbus lost their fifth road game in a row, and Mathieu Garon did everything he needed to make this one the third shut out during that stretch. Clippers 110, Heat 95 - The Clippers were still without an injured Sam Cassell, but...

Bobcats 133, Lakers 124, 3OT - Kobe Bryant proved that there's no "i" in team, and there was no victory in Charlotte. Despite pouring in 58 points (third highest total in his career), Kobe blew the game in the final 1:14 of triple overtime. First, he fouled Derek Anderson on a three point attempt, allowing Anderson to hit all three free-throws and put the Bobcats up by five. On the ensuing drive, he missed a jumper. The next possession, he was whistled for charging and fouled out of the game. Kobe wasn't happy with the foul calls after the game, but maybe he was just tired and cranky after playing so much extra time.
