Thom Yorke Surprise DJ Set at Low End Theory

Thom Yorke Surprise DJ Set at Low End Theory

The rumors were looking good. And then it was off. But around 11 p.m. as a line snaked around the Airliner in Lincoln Heights, Radiohead's Thom Yorke had literally no choice but to show up for an hourlong DJ set. It was the first public appearance of any member of Radiohead since the February 18th release of The King of Limbs. Might there be a Coachella appearance in some form or fashion from Yorke and crew? more ›

Tonight In Rock: El-P, Wavves, Ty Segall, Franklin For Short

Tonight Brooklyn-bred hip hop artist and Definitive Jux co-founder/owner/CEO, Jamie Meline, better known by his stage name El-P, will be headlining the Airliner for this week's edition of Low End Theory in celebration of his recently released mixtape—2010's Weareallgoingtoburninhellmegamixxx3. San Diegan lo-fi/noise pop outfit Wavves, who just released their third studio-album entitled King of the Beach, are poised to take on Madame Wong's in what will unfortunately be one of the venue's final shows; The former Chinatown restaurant-turned-punk concert hall will shutter its doors permanently soon hereafter. And, lastly, Ventura's own indie rockers Franklin for Short, who concluded a stint with Kings of Convenience not long ago and released their sixth studio-album entitled Dark Cloud, will be performing at the Bootleg Theater, warming up the stage for the Elected bassist Michael Runion. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Smell in Downtown to catch San Franciscan psych-infused garage rocker Ty Segall, who is touring in support of his latest tour de force—2010's Melted. LAist favorites, Austinites Yellowfever and Bay Area garage rockers Moonhearts are slated to kick things off. more ›

Tonight in Rock: Giddy Up! It's A Different Ride.

Tonight in Rock: Giddy Up! It's A Different Ride.

If tonight's slim pickings in the music scene had an official theme, it would fall into Western/Country. In mid-country, House of Blues, Sunset Strip, is hosting a night of insane Psychobilly (punk, meet rockabilly). The Southlands of Long Beach finds the baritone country rock sounds of Brad Johnson at Cowboy Country and to the north in the Valley, the straight ahead country rockabilly Jeffrey Michaels visits The Cowboy Palace Saloon. more ›
