On Friday we interviewed Jay Babcock of Arthur Magazine -- he books a series on Sunday nights at McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica. More Eastwardly, Alex & Sam will play their second show of the Sunday residency spot at Tangier in Los Feliz (for all February residencies in LA, check out our guide). Last week we checked them out while others detoxed from their Super Bowl Sunday and we can say the band of eight or so musicians is an excellent way to end your weekend with. And if you're down in the Long Beach area, how about some George Clinton?
We've never been to the Celebrity Center for a concert, but we can vouch for Cowboy (not Country!) musician Dave Stamey if you're into that kind of thang. Still, for those inclined to roots music, The Arthur Adams Band will be at the Baked Potato in Studio City playing blues.

"Vive l'independance!" Sure, we just hoisted back a few brews, grilled up some meat eats, and set off our own rockets' red glare on the 4th of July, but for the French--or merely fans of--today is the day of celebration: Bastille Day, which commemorates France's national uprising and storming of the Bastille prison. (We love history, but we'd rather talk parties, so if you've an inquiring mind, hop on over here and we'll continue with...

There's a lot of bad bands playing tonight, here are some good ones. For the NSFW Louis XIV vid starring Suicide Girls and directed by Eon McKai, meet us after the jump.
Our pals over at Austinist have been doing a bang-up job of Internet sleuthing, Googling, and MySpacing to confirm over 500 bands that will play SXSW even though the Austin music festival refuses to cooperate. After taking last week off because we were sure SXSW would release their master plan, we now return as there seems to be no end in sight to the band list embargo. Many indie labels and some marquee acts...
Last night LAist bid adieu to summer with one last evening under the stars at the Hollywood Bowl. But last night wasn't the usual orchestra and picnic basket affair--it was a screening of the midnight movie cult classic Rocky Horror Picture Show, celebrating its 30th anniversary with what amounted to be the biggest ever audience participation crowd in the film's decadent and scantily clad history. The pre-show included a performance by the band Louis XIV, and a costume parade and contest won by a handsome lad in a gold lame pair of panties (dressed as Rocky, naturally). The night was emceed by former Go-Go and currently annoying Jane Weidlin, and the cast of the Art Theatre in Long Beach's Midnight Insanity group did the live show act-along with the film. The audience was a mish-mash of the clueless and some "wild and untamed things"--tons of drag, plenty of bare butt cheeks, and loads of lingerie. Some RHPS "virgins" were subjected to brief humiliation, and as the show went on the audience response shouts represented the dialogue of many generations and many theatres, all of which coin their own special, and frequently obscene, bits to scream at the screen.
LAist would like to send you and a friend to see a special screening and live performance of the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Hollywood Bowl on Monday, September 5th.
FRIDAY
The series fascinates because it finally reveals the audition process that's hidden from the average Angeleno, except for glimpses witnessed via a roommate, neighbor or new friend hellbent on becoming a working actor.
It's going to be a busy night in Los Angeles—the weather has cooled off and fall is creeping in, so LAist recommends going out and partaking of all the fine entertainments the city has to offer before everyone gives up on their sunny summer dispositions.
