Last week Monday, Metro released a series of service enhancements and additions including the new Gold Line schedule. In the additions bucket came two new Metro Rapid lines, both starting in Downtown. The 728 runs between Downtown and Century City, mostly along Olympic Blvd. A ride review by Wad at MetroRiderLA finds that the busy thoroughfare "has a cross-cultural crosstown aspect" as it runs through Central American community of Pico-Union, Koreatown, Little Ethiopia, South Carthay......

Every time I meet someone who just moved here, I am able to spew out facts that surprise them. For one, except for this past year, it rains here in the winter. Sometimes weeks at a time. Two, we have a subway and if they happened to find their first apartment near it, well lucky them for avoiding some gridlock. Finally, the 1994 Northridge earthquake was nothing compared to what's coming, so welcome to......

Did you know today is the 226th birthday of El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora La Reina de Los Angeles -- aka L.A.? The old bitch is looking pretty good for her age! Although the city did not incorporate until 1850, September 4th, 1781 is the date that 44 Mexican pobladores set out from San Gabriel with a military escort to settle alongside a great river -- then called the Rio de Porciuncula, later to......

Thank God for the New York Times and its latest scintillating trend piece, which bravely goes out on a limb to inform readers that as crazy as it may sound, Koi and Republic aren’t the only two restaurants in Los Angeles. What? A New York publication writing arrogantly and stupidly about some aspect of Los Angeles culture? Stop the presses! In her New York Times regional trend essay Los Angeles: Where Stars Are in the......

Starting tomorrow, Saturday, January 13th, at 5:00 p.m., TVGasm.com embarks on a marathon of "24" viewing in eager and obsessive anticipation of the season premiere on Sunday. They've got tons of schwag they're going to give away, an Edgar tribute, call-ins, guests, contests, and they're hoping to get Kiefer and anybody else from the show to stop by. I had a chance to pepper co-host Saul Friedman with some LAist-specific questions, namely what "24"......

So we don't have an official Little Italy? Psahw! Screw it! Stop visiting Canter's in Fairfax Village so much and head a little more South to Little Ethiopia once in awhile. Many have been, but most have passed through. At the very least, watch the video on TurnHere. Food enough of a reason? Hey, even vegan food! Or shopping? It's the holiday season after all. Skip the last minute Christmas Eve World Market/Cost Plus......

LAist is going on a delicious spree around LA from A to Z. This week, we continue where we left off, with F. Today, we visit Fassica, an Ethiopian restaurant somewhat removed from LA's Little Ethiopia on Fairfax. It's on Washington Boulevard in Culver City. Fassica finally has a permanent sign to replace the canary yellow and royal blue plastic banner that used to flap in the breeze above the front door. When we......

Last week, NPR's "Morning Edition" broadcast a series covering immigrant communities in Los Angeles County. NPR's Mandalit del Barco reported on the wonders of Koreatown in the August 13th broadcast of "Morning Edition," while Thursday brought Amy Walters' dispatch about the Tempo Bar in Encino, where the 15,000 LA County-based Israelis congregate. Earlier in the week Alex Cohen—from NPR's KQED affiliate—reported from Artesia, a multicultural city where dozens of languages are spoken, while she......
