LAist Live! at the Grammys

While you are waiting for the tape-delayed West Coast television feed of the Grammys, LAist will be covering the awards show as it unfolds live at LA Live! We're adding YouTube video of the performances as they come in (and as long as they're up) below. So far the biggest bombshell is that Radiohead will be doing a surprise performance of "15 Step" about halfway through the show. They will be introduced by Gwyneth Paltrow and accompanied by the USC marching band. [Skip to the bottom of the article for the complete schedule of performers, in order.]

Radiohead, McCartney to Play Grammys

The 51st Annual Grammy Awards will take place in a couple of weeks here in LA at the Staples Center, and the Recording Academy has announced another batch of artists slated to perform live as part of the show, the Daily News reports. In addition to previously named performers Kenny Chesney, Coldplay, Jennifer Hudson, Jonas Brothers, Lil Wayne, Katy Perry, and Carrie Underwood, comes word some of music's heavy-hitters will take the stage: Rock icon Paul McCartney (who will be at this year's Coachella fest), Radiohead (their first US tv performance in almost a decade), T.I. and Justin Timberlake together, and Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, T.I. and Kanye West performing "Swagga Like Us." Of course, to see all these performances live you'll have to be part of the select few with a ticket to the Feb. 8 show; as is the norm with awards show telecasts, we'll have to wait for CBS to air it 3 hours later at 8 p.m.

Tonight LA is filled to the brim with free residencies. We've got the Manimal Vinyl Residency at the Echo with Polyamorous Affair as headliners. Silver Lake-based alternative rockers The Color Turning will trek on at the Silver Lake Lounge with the Capshuns. And, lastly, Sean Carnage is throwing Crunk On Christ Party at the hole-and-corner Pehrspace, which is generally free as well. But we strongly recommend plopping down at Spaceland to catch LAist favorites the Movies (LAist Review, #2, #3, #4), who will be tearing down the house with exuberant high kicks. Local indie rockers Voxhaul Broadcast is slated to open the show.

Tonight New Orleans-based rapper Lil' Wayne is slated to headline the Gibson Amphitheatre. LA's own electronic genius Daedelus will be headlining the Echoplex and will be accompanied by Busdriver, the Mae Shi, Rumspringa and the Entrance Band. And although that stellar bill is all too enticing, we strongly recommend stopping by the Hotel Café for Buddyhead's Christmas Party. A trough full of celebrated local musicians, like QOTSA front man Josh Homme, Dead Meadow front man Jason Simon, Xu Xu Fang (LAist Review, #2, #3) and LAist favorites Dios (Malos) (LAist Interview), will preside over the unruly procession.

If you aren't familiar, Clinton Sparks has rapidly risen from the basement of his mother's house in Boston to an elite DJ, producer and on-air personality. Recently, the host of the nationally syndicated Smashtime Radio and producer of numerous classic mixtapes like the first two volumes of the "We Got it 4 Cheap" series by The Clipse and The Re-Up Gang, has crossed over into cable television as the music correspondent for E!'s The Daily 10. A man on the go, criss-crossing the country from coast-to-coast to throw down some of the biggest parties in the country's top clubs, to producing beats for A-list artists to appearing on your television screen, Clinton took a little time to talk with LAist prior to boarding his flight from Las Vegas, where he hosts Daily 10 Smashtime Saturdays at Body English, to LA.

For the third or fourth week in a row (who's counting?) our lovable loser, Beck, tops the charts at Amoeba in Hollywood with his latest collection. Just behind Beck is the super sweet double-cd Pavement reissue of Wowee Zowee that included, in some cases, information as to how to download a pristine MP3 copy of their April 1994 concert at the Palace here in Los Angeles. 1. Beck - Information 2. Pavement - Wowee...
