Exxxotica L.A. Takes It Slow
In years gone by, L.A.'s annual porn convention has been busting at the seams with hundreds of adult film aficionados vying for an autograph or picture with a beloved professional fornicator. But on August 26-28, Exxxotica L.A. - which took the place of similarly-timed, identically-themed Erotica L.A. - was a little different. Instead of snaking around booths for 50 feet, lines to meet well-known porn actresses like Alektra Blue, Joanna Angel and Bobbi Starr were just two or three people deep.
2010: The Adult Industry in Photos (SFW)
Thousands of miles, 12 set visits, 4 award shows, 2 conventions, 2 colleges, and 1 benefit.
Those were the statistics for LAist last year in covering the adult industry, headquartered in the San Fernando Valley.
eXXXotica LA, 7/9-7/11/10 (NSFW)
As mentioned previously, last weekend was the inaugural edition of eXXXotica Los Angeles at the LA Convention Center. "Like superstar Kobe Bryant and his teammates, eXXXotica attracted a multitude of A-list stars for three days of selling products, promoting new projects and the de rigueur meet and greet with fans," reported AVN.
2009: The Adult Industry in Photos
With the ongoing recession and continued threat of piracy, 2009 may have been tough for the multi-billion dollar adult industry, but it was also Sasha Grey's most prominent thus far. With the leading role in Steven Soderbergh's labeled her "The Dirtiest Girl in the World" and Fleshbot included her in their Top Ten Crush Objects of 2009 (NSFW). So it's no surprise that she will be honored with The Jenna Jameson Crossover Star of the Year at the AVN Awards this Saturday at the Pearl Theater inside the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
Belladonna & Kimberly Kane's 'Winter Wonderland' Benefit @ Busbys East 12/05/09
As mentioned earlier this month, pornstar-directors Belladonna and Kimberly Kane organized the "Winter Wonderland" fundraiser, benefiting the besieged Adult Industry Medical Health Care Foundation, at Busbys East.
LAist Was There: 'Winter Wonderland' Benefit
Last night at Busbys East, adult actress Lexi Belle hosted red carpet interviews for AVN Live at Belladonna and Kimberly Kane's "Winter Wonderland" benefit, which raised thousands of dollars for the embattled Adult Industry Medical Health Care Foundation.
On-Set: Belladonna Hosts a 'Party of Feet' (NSFW)
Last Thursday, pornstar, entrepreneur, and radio host Belladonna was hostess to a foot fetish-themed party at her San Fernando Valley home. Filmed by her husband, business partner, and director Aiden for Evil Angel, the aptly-titled features an all-star cast of nine industry favorites and relative newcomers to the adult industry, including Kimberly Kane, Bobbi Starr, Adrianna Nicole, Lexi Belle, Alexis Texas, Alexa Jordan, Madison Ivy, Evie Delatosso, and Georgia Jones, with Andy San Dimas backing out at the last-minute as a precaution due to the HIV outbreak.
Erotica LA & F.A.M.E. Awards Expected to Draw 40,000
You've probably seen the billboards and other advertising promoting this weekend's Erotica LA at the LA Convention Center. While smaller in scale than AVN's Adult Entertainment Expo, the 13th annual incarnation is still the city's largest yearly adult consumer exposition, with predictions of over 40,000 people in attendance, many of whom will be women and couples.
Belladonna Radio is Live and On the Air
LAist favorite Sasha Grey has been quite a media sensation due to her leading role in Steven Soderbergh's , with film critic Roger Ebert even observing that "I haven't seen any of [her adult work], but now I would like to see one, watching very carefully, to see if she suggests more than one level."
XRCO Awards, 4/16/09 (2/2)
When Tori Black, whom LAist first met last March, walked the red carpet at the XRCO Awards, she almost broke into tears when confiding to a nearby photographer friend about how hard she's worked this past year. And while she again lost to Stoya for New Starlet, her excitement at winning Cream Dream, against an impressive lineup that included Lexi Belle, Dakoda Brookes, Alexis Love, and Faye Reagan, was widely apparent.
Dispatch: AVN Adult Movie Awards, 1/10/09 (3/3)
When visibly-shaken Digital Playground contract girl Stoya walked onstage to accept her AVN Adult Movie Award for Best New Starlet -- against a formidable lineup that included Lexi Belle, Tori Black, Faye Reagan, and Ryder Skye -- she concluded her speech with, "And thank you to just about everyone that jerks off to my smut."
Dispatch: AVN Adult Entertainment Expo, 1/8/09
As mentioned last Friday, the adult industry has gathered this week for AVN's annual Adult Entertainment Expo and Adult Movie Awards in Las Vegas, with the convention running through Sunday at the Sands Expo and Convention Center, and the awards show on Saturday at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. And while Thursday, the first day of the convention, was only open to members of the adult industry and press, it will be open to the public from today onward.

'The Doll Underground' Release Party @ Little Cave, 4/9/08
Last Wednesday, Vivid-Alt (MySpace) head, director Eon McKai (MySpace), celebrated the release of his new movie "...is one of the best porn films I've ever seen, and it feels like anti-porn — it's almost against the system it came from by being all that it is — a deep investigation of culture from an industry we regard as being utterly bereft of culture beyond the superficial. Rise up, indeed. Highly recommended."
