If there's any silver lining to the cloudy days ahead wrought by Prop. 8, it's that bigotry so foul comes with a price too heavy for some of its chief proponents to bear. And I'm not talking about a couple missed meals at El Coyote--Focus On the Family itself, after forking over more than $500,000 to pass California's Prop. 8 gay marriage ban, announced yesterday that its budget shortfalls are forcing it to cut an estimated one fifth of its staff.

On Saturday, March 8rd I went down to Silverlake's Manual Archives (a "Microtheater") and saw a strange and wonderful play called Concrete Folk Variations Part 1: Death Of A Sugar Daddy.

Most Gay and Lesbian literature uses the initials LGBT to describe the community. It stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender. But the bisexual part doesn't usually get a lot of attention. MTV's new dating show, A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila, has made bisexuality public. I normally would not have watched a show with some random Myspace chick, but this set-up, with straight guys and lesbians duking it out for the same woman, was irresistible. At the end of the first episode, when Tila outs herself to both parties, there is a distinctly different reaction from the men and the women - or am I projecting? Whereas the men clearly were shocked and amazed, the women seemed betrayed.

I probably wouldn't have pointed to Amazon.com as a champion of progressive thought and equality, but what do I know? Gaywired.com reports that Dana Rudolph, publisher of Mombian.com, was interested in entering an Amazon.com contest that offered a prize of $25,000 in college tuition. The recipient of the prize could either be the winner or the winner’s immediate family member, which the website categorized as “his or her spouse, children, grandchildren, parents, grandparents and...

Sex is something that drives us, empowers us and gets us into really stupid situations with people we have no business seeing naked. Jen Sincero is the bestselling author and sexpert with the carnal knowledge you need. Ask her your questions (all are posted anonymously). Cuz there's no such thing as being too good in bed. Dear Jen, Recently it was revealed that the Pentagon, under Bill Clinton, was working on a secret Gay...

I know it may come as a shocking revelation to some of you who know me, but yes, last night I actually put on comfortable shoes and - exercised. OK, I still wore my mules. I always wear my mules. But I walked. Really fast too - it is impossible to keep up with those dang bikes! (Photo essay of the DYKE March down Sunset blvd. during Pride Week after the jump. A few pics...

Put on your comfortable shoes, girls, because there will be not one, but TWO Dyke Marches this weekend. Friday night Christopher Street West's LA Pride will be sponsoring the "traditional" WeHo Dyke March, which has been an annual event since around 1994. However, original founders of the WeHo Dyke March, former members of Act Up! including Cindy Crogan and Judy Sisneros, splintered off in 2003 to form Dyke March Los Angeles. They felt the...

The infamous leader of the Thomas Road Baptist Church, the PTL, the National Liberty Journal, Liberty University, and the Moral Majority was found dead this morning in his office at Liberty Univeristy in Virginia.

With all that went down this week, we thought we thought we'd cheer everyone up by giving everyone a double dose of dogs.

Today we got an email from a concerned Pepperdine alumn whose words made us think that there just might be trouble in paradise Dear Editor: As an alumnus of Pepperdine University, I am deeply troubled by recent events at the University and the active suppression of free speech on campus. Pepperdine, like all American colleges, should be an “open marketplace for ideas” rather than an agent for indoctrination. Unfortunately, the University continues to practice...

I just had a look at an editors' review of your book, "The Straight Girl's Guide To Sleeping With Chicks," and am baffled - what makes you straight? I may be one of those rare people who never particularly noticed whether people were male or female when I was a kid, but rather went for a certain kind of energy (which is found in male actors/circus people, as well as in certain creative or particularly observant women).

MTV's Real World Denver reveals its new cast: two blacks, a gay, two sexually-charged chicks, and a Raiderette. In it's 18th season, the Real World seems to be living up to its barely legal aspirations - popbytes OJ offered $3.5 mil to write a book about what if he had killed his wife and the waiter. Go Trojans! - MSNBC OMG an actor is gay? And he's not a Republican Congressperson? - Defamer A...

Righty bloggers have their panties in a bunch that (another) one of their own is being exposed as being a closeted homosexual with a history of helping to pass anti-gay laws. It's hard to tell if they're upset that their party is quickly becoming the Gay Old Party (not like there's anything wrong with that), or the Hypocritical Old Party, or the Page-Chasing Old Party. The latest Republican Senator accused of being a homosexual...

Somehow, the world of -ists managed to make it through the week despite news that Jen & Vince broke up.

LAist is on the road. Yesterday we sat in the bleachers of Wrigley Field where it was 85 degrees and beautiful. For a 1:20pm game on a Monday with the home team 30 games below .500 it was a pretty great turnout. While getting beers we got to meet some of the ladies and gentlemen of Wrigley. Below the jump you'll get to see some of the guys who sit behind the wall in...

Every week in Living in Sin, Jen Sincero provides advice for LA's sexually curious. Now you can see her column in print in the LA Alternative Press. Ask Jen your questions: all are posted anonymously.

We found ourselves at the premiere of the lesbiriffic romantic comedy April's Shower last night at the Regent Cinema in Hollywood. Attending a gaysploitation premiere is a little bit like attending a major movie premiere, only smaller and obviously gayer. There were all the usual requisites: a red carpet (small, no bouncer), television reporters (from something called 'Q Television') and plenty of sub D-list celebrities hoping to score an extra drink ticket, but the whole thing was a lot less Brokeback Mountain and a lot more Muff Dive Molehill.

America’s favorite TV lesbians returned Sunday during the third season premiere of Showtime's The L Word. The show’s party line has always been universality: Despite the characters’ sexual orientation, these lovely LA ladies are just like us. Kinda.

The American Girl dolls and books now made by El Segundo-based Mattel are set in various, often polarized periods of American history, so that the plucky heroines experience, and have to make their own decisions about, situations in the American Revolution, the Victorian Industrial Revolution, the abolition of slavery, and other American turning points of the past.

Jen Sincero is a musician, sexpert, and the author of the bestselling book, The Straight Girl’s Guide To Sleeping With Chicks and the semi-autobiographical novel, Don’t Sleep With Your Drummer. She currently hosts a weekly sex talk radio show called Dr. Happypants on killradio.org.

note: we posted and pulled this article because the original material is from a satire site. We still haven't decided whether we're sadder that we couldn't tell it was a satire or that we wouldn't have been surprised if Pat Robertson had actually said it. In this case, though...he didn't.

Multi-hyphenated Guinevere Turner, 37, is queen of the shorts at this year’s Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Film Festival (Outfest 05). The actress-writer-director stars as a clairvoyant in Beyond Lovely, which screened last night as part of Outfest's “Funny Ladies” program.

Move over Spike and Lifetime, there’s a new playah in town. Meet Logo — the latest venture of MTV Networks that caters to a primarily gay audience. The new ad-supported, basic cable channel makes its debut later today in about 10 million homes and, according to Logo’s website, will feature: “…more than 200 lesbian and gay films, an ongoing documentary series, newscasts tailored for a gay and lesbian audience and quality original shows and specials.”

Each week we're compelled to watch the "L Word," motivated by the same impulses that force motorists in traffic to gape at a car wreck on the freeway. We just can't help ourselves.
