In the 80s, every punker's bedroom wall was papered with flyers from gigs. There were a few bands that always seemed to be at the bottom of the flyer - perpetual openers. Sin 34 was one of those bands. From 81 - 84 they were always there at the major shows, usually somewhere near the bottom of the flyer. They broke up a year before I got to know drummer Dave Markey, guitarist Mike......

Part of an ongoing series. Last Sunday, local electronic pop duo Electrocute (MySpace), perhaps best known for their song "Bikini Bottom" on the SpongeBob SquarePants Movie soundtrack, concluded their February residency at Spaceland (MySpace) in Silver Lake. The lineup included Totally Radd!! (MySpace) and Har Mar Superstar (MySpace). This month, the artists who've shared their stage include Punk Bunny (MySpace), ARP (MySpace), Laco$te (MySpace), The Lady Tigra (MySpace), and B.R.A.M (MySpace). Tonight, Electrocute performs......

Foxy's carne asada chilaquiles run you $12 but you'll stay fed for days | All photos by Andy Sternberg for LAist In spite of the greasy mess plate of hungover love pictured above, Foxy's in Glendale is far from your last resort, still-drunk brekkie-plate of mornings soon to be forgotten. No, no, no. Last Sunday when we rolled up the Brand Boulevard of Cars and took a left onto Colorado and another into Foxy's......

Slim pickings to choose from this Thanksgiving week and that makes it hard to choose just one. Friday through Sunday, the LA Phil will be playing Brahms' "Double Concerto" and Dvorák's killer Symphony No. 9 "From the New World," while the LA Opera opens two shows that will play on alternating dates: Don Giovanni and La Boheme. Tonight at Sundays Live, the free concert at LACMA, is Franz Schubert's "Quintet in C Major, D. 956"......

Last Sunday, September 23rd, Dr. Jane Goodall head-lined the International Day of Peace with Roots and Shoots, a global network of youth dedicated to protecting human rights through environment-centered campaigns. Children marched with giant home-made peace puppets as environment and human rights organizations were on hand to provide information and network with locals. Goodall mingled for a while, greeting children and petting dogs before leading the Peace Dove marchers through Griffith Park. After demonstrating......

Lately I have found myself exploring Sunset Junction in Silverlake. From Reform School to Giant Robot, the area is full of fun places to shop. Last Sunday, we headed to my favorite store of all, Bar Keeper. I must admit I find myself a bit giddy as I walk inside. A large Galliano bottle reminds me of the one my dad proudly displayed on our formica bar when I was a kid. A few......

Last Sunday night, whilst many Angelenos were trying to make complete sentences out of what was left between all the bleeps heard during the MTV Movie Awards, I was down by the beach at the Loews Hotel in Santa Monica, checking out an event called "Dessert Decadence." Billed as a sunset poolside minglefest, the event featured neither a sunset (too overcast and ran from 5-8, just a bit too early) nor a poolside (we......

Mmmmm. Fried food! Here's 2 recipes for fall. Fried stuffed Zucchini Blossoms and fried baby Artichokes. Fried Stuffed Zucchini Blossoms: Late summer/early fall is the only time to get Zucchini blossoms, a versatile little treat you can find at the farmer's market. The Hollywood Farmer's Market has them right now. The stand is on Ivar, just north of Selma on the west side of the block. Last Sunday the blossoms caught my eye and......

Last Sunday Venicebeach.org blogger Pamela went to the Hollywood Hills to check out a yard sale. She was looking for the advertised Haitian art — what she found was Howard Hessman. She didn't pay much attention to the Saarenin-like dining room set as she tried to get a shot of WKRP's Dr. Johnny Fever in his garage. She says that he looked tired — but wasn't a little world-weariness combined with a 70s-drug potpourri......
