Before everyone was bitten by the "green" bug, there were those in LA (or who visited) who had a vision for sustainability. Paul Glover was one of them. After creating the local currency that is Ithaca Hours, Paul opined about a way to bring ultra-urban Los Angeles into a sustainability community - all based on closing some alleys.

We wish we had known about this last week. The Library Foundation of Los Angeles honored Harper Lee with the Literary Award at their awards dinner last Thursday and she actually showed up! The famously reclusive author was compelled by Gregory Peck's widow to attend the ceremony which also celebrated the tenth anniversary of The Gregory Peck Reading Series.

Though not nearly as tall an order as describing, say, the best foie gras you’ve ever tasted, we’re struggling to find adjectives to describe the pleasure of seeing Reichl -- the current Editor-in-Chief of Gourmet, celebrated memoirist, and former food critic for the Los Angeles Times and New York Times -- discuss her work in person.
