USC Suspends Marc Tyler for Remarks He Made to TMZ Outside Voyeur
If you've seen TMZ, you've seen how their intrepid newsgatherers stand outside Los Angeles hotspots hoping to catch a celeb with their cameras. Last Thursday, outside WeHo's Voyeur, the cameras rolled on University of Southern California tailback Marc Tyler, who find himself suspended today for what he said in the mini interview.
LAst Night's Action: Angels, Dodgers Make for a Happy LA
LA Angels defeat Tampa Bay Rays 6-3. The Angels’ light weight hitters have now come through twice in their three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays. After Brandon Wood hit the game-winning homer in the ninth inning Friday night, Peter Bourjos, whose batting average is also below the Mendoza line...
Trojans Fight On Tonight
Everyone knows what’s at stake for the USC Trojans. A Rose Bowl
Oh wait. NCAA sanctions eliminated them from that. Playing for Pete
Oh wait. He’s chased the NFL dream in Seattle. Well then it appears that pride is the only thing at stake for the Trojans this season. How, um, exciting.
Interview: ESPN Radio's Ryen Russillo, Co-Host of 'The Scott Van Pelt Show'
Despite what you may have read on Wikipedia, Ryen Russillo is not a native of Compton or Inglewood. Russillo can, however, be heard in Compton, Inglewood and throughout the area weekdays 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on AM 830 KLAA co-hosting "The Scott Van Pelt Show."
LAst Night's Action: Bad Night for Angels
Boston Red Sox defeat LA Angels 6-3. Well the Angels debut of Dan Haren (L, 0-1) didn’t go as planned. First of all having been upstaged by Matt Garza’s no-hitter that concluded just minutes before first pitch, he would eventually leave after being struck in the arm by Kevin Youkilis’ line drive back up the middle with two outs in the fifth inning. David Ortiz hit two homers which the Angels couldn’t overcome despite scoring twice in the eighth inning to get to within a run. But J.D. Drew hit a two-run double in the ninth to put the exclamation point on it. Haren despite not completing five innings struck out eight hitters while walking none. Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz (W, 11-5) wound up with the win going seven innings striking out seven while walking one.
Seven Questions: Keyshawn Johnson
LA has a diverse cast of characters. Whether it's the characters with stirring stories or interesting occupations or the people who are just simply characters, this town has them all. In an effort to get to know some of those characters a little better, we've created "Seven Questions with..." If you have a suggestion for a future Seven Questions subject send us an email.
Lane Change for Trojans
I found myself reading Scott Wolf’s tweets yesterday. That’s how strange the USC head coaching job search had become. I realized I was actually interested in his nonsensical flip-flopping and reporting of false leads. I spent the day instant messaging my friends with ties to Heritage Hall along with LAist Sports Editor Jimmy Bramlett, seeing who had heard what.
L-A-N-E Spells Disaster
As I type this up at 9:00 pm, Ed Orgeron is at Heritage Hall looking at video of recruits mere hours after becoming recruiting coordinator for USC. Again.
Lane Kiffin Hired By USC [Updated]
ESPN.com is reporting that USC has hired Tennessee Volunteers and for Trojans offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin to replace Pete Carroll as head coach of the football team. ESPNLosAngeles.com's Arash Markazi is also reporting that Kiffin will bring defensive coordinator and father Monte Kiffin and defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron.
Lane Kiffin Fired by Al Davis
According to the Evil Four-Letter Network's Chris Mortenson, Raider's head coach Lane Kiffin has officially been fired. Word is the rest of his contract will not be honored and is not allowed to speak to his players.
LAst Night's Action:
LA Dodgers defeat San Diego Padres 12-4. The Dodgers sure know how to pile it on. Tuesday they scored six runs in the first inning. Wednesday night they scored six runs in their final offensive inning. Everyone got in on the action even Jeff Kent, Juan Pierre and Rafael Furcal. Yes Furcal made his first appearance with the Dodgers since Cinco de Mayo and was inches away from hitting an extra-base hit down the left field line only for it to go foul. He would strike out on the next pitch but come in defensively for the ninth inning. The Dodger's magic number is one. The Diamondbacks play an afternoon game against the Cardinals, so it might be possible for the Dodgers to clinch the division before they even get to the park.
LAst Night's Action: Angels Climb the Ranks
LA Angels defeat Seattle Mariners 2-1. The Angels had their chances to put away the Mariners getting 10 hits. Vladimir Guerrero tied the game 1-1 in the fourth inning with a solo shot. The Angels got the game winning run in the seventh inning when Jeff Mathis singled and came home on a Reggie Willits single and a fielding error by Raul Ibanez. But that was all that was needed for the Angels to win their 97th game of the season. Ervin Santana was spectacular going eight innings giving up only one run on five hits walking none and striking out nine. The Angels are on their way to win 100 games, the most in franchise history.
LAst Night's Action: Happy Anniversary, Kobe
Lakers 108, Warriors 103 - The Lakers kicked off a slow week in local sports (only five pro games in total) by pulling out a win against the Golden State Warriors. Los Angeles had lost two in a row, but hasn't dropped three consecutive games all season. LAist was in attendance and watched the Lakers once again play to the level of their opponent. While the Warriors are better off since a massive eight player...
The Second Big Loser of the UCLA Upset: H. D. Buttercup
Bandini, author of the sweet (yet not-recently updated, cough cough) LA blog The Great Taco Hunt, asks, "I wonder how much furniture Lane Kiffin bought from HD Buttercup?"
Ducking a Bullet
USC is clearly the most talented team in the country, but if they want to avoid these kinds of mini-scares, then the Trojans need to make a few minor changes. USC isn't getting LenDale White involved enough in the offense, and instead is over-using Reggie Bush. When Oregon jumped ahead early thanks to two turnovers, USC hit the panic button and seemingly tried to use Bush in every play, or go deep to Dwayne Jarrett or Steve Smith. That might have worked every play against Arkansas and Hawaii, but not every team is a pushover.
