Making a move from the Shrine Auditorium to Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in downtown, the Emmys declared their new home for at least 10 years starting this year when the show airs on ABC, September 21. Academy chairman John Shaffner said the Emmy's had outgrown the Figueroa Blvd. space and that the downtown theatre was "appealing." Ten years ago, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences moved the show away from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium......

Photo by [Kwasi B.] via the LAist Featured Photos pool on Flickr Just when you thought they had faded into obscurity, Segways are reappearing on the scene. This time they'll be the mode of transport for patrols in LA-area Target stores' parking lots. The company says they like to use them because they add 8 inches of height for the rider, and run on batteries. Some passengers at LAX were evacuated for about two......

From the outside, it might look like putting on my ray bans and blasting Bill Withers Live at Carnegie Hall is a matter of taste, but in reality it’s a calculated effort for droning out the miles of billboards, concrete, and cars I drive through everyday. Amateur graffiti art and occasional, adjacent shrubbery are hardly enough to make up for what we have to sit through during daily commutes. This year, I’ve become well......

Let's start over, shall we? Disney is investing $1.1 billion into California (Mis)adventure, the ghost town of an amusement park next to Disneyland. The Rose Queen for the Pasadena Rose Parade was announced this morning and her name is Dusty. We just love that name for a girl. Staring now, there is no excuse for anyone of any age to ever go "I don't get blogging." The world's oldest blogger celebrated her birthday this......

Douglas E. Hanes became the new publisher for the Daily News today with the goal of strengthening the Los Angeles Newspaper Group's presence in the Valley. If you haven't noticed, it's still freaking hot out and it's not going away. Over 11,000 customers lost power today in Laguna Beach and it wasn't heat related. If someone is trying to rob you, throw a hot cup of coffee in his face. That's what a woman......

Gentlemen (and real estate robber barons), start your engines! Today’s LA Times reports the city plans to sell 9 million square feet of unused air rights above the LA Convention Center to developers, and at the bargain basement price of $20 per square foot. For the unacquainted, air rights are what developers like Donald Trump usually have to quietly buy up in order to build a ginormous new tower. Turns out the land around......

There were a few stories this week that we wanted to get to but didn't so here they are in a handy dandy roundup. - In the 53rd district, 3 Republicans can't touch one popular Democrat. His name is Tom Lieu. Does this mean we're no longer get two or three Paul Whitehead press releases every day anymore? - The folks behind the Staples Center want to build a consumer monstrosity downtown and call......
