The Spelling Bee for Adults is coming to Long Beach on June 4th and they need more participants. Do you spend a good portion of your internet time using the "define: < word >" search in google as much as we do in the bowels of LAist HQ? Do you always want to know the language of origin or when curse words were first used and what they meant?

Carolyn Kellogg has been the editor of LAist for just about a month. She's been writing for the site for much longer than that. At the same time, she hosts Pinky's Paperhaus but we'll get into that later. She explains her professional past as a "former music journalist turned web producer". We'd describe her as energetic, intelligent, invested, excited and colorful.

With any luck, right now the mistletoe is hung, the presents are wrapped, the wassail is bubbling and all of our lovely readers are snuggled up happily at home, enjoying the beginning of what promises to be a fine holiday weekend.

Spending the last three days at E3 has almost completely drained our will to live. All that time walking around at the LA Convention Center (and believe us, its a big place) has taken its toll. As we limp back to the welcoming embrace of the plush and eminiently comfortable LAist HQ, we are gathering our thoughts and checking our notes and putting together a hopefully interesting wrap-up of the sights, sounds and yes, even smells, of the 2005 Electronic Entertainment Expo. Ok, here goes.
