KPCC Plays Hilarious Prank on KPFK

KPCC Plays Hilarious Prank on KPFK

It's funny when rival public radio stations get into tiffs with each other (or...it would be if we could think of an instance in which that had happened), but it's even funnier when they outright prank each other. (Democrats have a sense of humor, too!) more ›

Big Changes at KCBS/KCAL

Veteran weatherman Johnny Mountain and early-morning co-anchor Suzanne Rico have retired from KCBS/KCAL duopoly, according to the Variety. But that's not all in what is being called a "restructuring plan" or "newsroom carnage," depending on how you look at it. Word is that several staffers, perhaps up to 12, were laid off last Friday and are all expected to be replaced, presumably by cheaper workers to help save money. Meanwhile, KPCC 89.3 FM is expanding in a big way. more ›

Chief Bratton to LA Weekly: You Stoners

Chief Bratton to LA Weekly: You Stoners

If you want good quotes, you go to LAPD Chief Bratton. He's always been one to be candid (remember his celebrity gossp/analysis?) Well yesterday, he joined Patt Morrision for her show on KPCC and when asked about LA Weekly's April 30th story refuting the LAPD's touted crime statistics, he dismissed it calling the report "voodoo journalism" said writer Patrick Range McDonald and cohorts must have "smoking a little weed when they wrote the article." That didn't sit well with Tina Dupuy at FishbowlLA: more ›

Sunday Photoist: Inside UCLA Radio

Every so often when we feel so inspired to do so, we feature a photo from a photographer in the LAist Flickr Pool. It's another way of giving the many excellent photographers in our pool the attention that they deserve. Everyone knows Santa Monica College has a radio station (KCRW 89.9). And CSUN (KCSN 88.5) and CSULB (KJAZZ 88.1) too. Even Pasadena City College (KPCC 89.3) and USC (KUSC 91.5) have theirs. Where is UCLA's?... more ›

Enough With the 'Dot Orgy,' KPCC!

Enough With the 'Dot Orgy,' KPCC!

I've written e-mails, made phone calls, and pledged. I even wrote a two-page essay at their 3-hour (paid) market research session at the Hyatt. And still, every morning I'm summoned from my slumber by a soft voice announcing in code-like rhyme that my public radio station is having an orgy on the Web. Sixty-three degrees at seven-thirty-three, on eighty-nine-Point-three, KP-CC, I'm Steve Julian.... Online at K-P....C-C dot O-R-G. "Dot O-R-G?" You mean "dot org," I... more ›

LAist reads the weeklies so you don't have to. If there's anything we missed, let us know, or better yet drop it in the comments section below.... more ›

I spend a lot of time around showbiz... more ›
